WomenCraft is a community-driven social enterprise operating from Ngara, Tanzania.
WomenCraft’s mission is to increase economic opportunity in the post-conflict tri-border area of Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi by bringing rural women together, facilitating their growth and connecting their artistry to the global marketplace. Through WomenCraft, over 300 artisans advance themselves, raise stronger families, stimulate their communities and inspire the world around them.
Job Objective: The Sales and Marketing Manager handles customer communications and identifies opportunities to increase sales of WomenCraft’s handcrafted products. The Sales Manager is goal oriented and highly motivated to reach targeted markets that will exceed sales targets. The Sales Manager is a problem solver, and can look for solutions to ensure orders are filled on time and customers are satisfied with their products.
Primary Responsibilities:
Acquires new customers and handles customer communication:
· Attracts new national and regional customers by researching and contacting potential retail and wholesale buyers and identifying new business opportunities;
· Regularly communicates with current and potential buyers, both in person at fairs and through phone, email and social media, to market WomenCraft products. Retains current buyers;
· Maintains a database containing names and contact information of potential customers, suppliers and competitors for national, regional and international markets;
· Tracks sales targets and produces accurate sales reports.
Coordinates national and retail sales and marketing:
· Coordinate sales efforts within East Africa through management of the Dar Sales Rep. Provide constructive feedback for sales activities and events and analyze sales;
· Assess potential for a sales outlet/warehouse in Dar and work with Dar Sales Rep to set up, manage and track inventory and sales at the sales outlets;
· Explore opportunities to expand partnerships and network in Dar and identify a circle of volunteer supporters;
Coordinates Expansion of U.S. Marketing:
· Coordinates the U.S. marketing strategy and the work of U.S. Sales Reps to manage online sales and to increase the sales of products through fairs, host parties;
· Using social media, universities, business and connections, expand the number of volunteers involved in U.S. sales efforts;
Contributes to Production Processes:
· Works in close collaboration with the WomenCraft Ngara team to ensure the entire process from order obtainment to order delivery is smooth, meets the order specifications, and is on time;
· Works out issues in the supply chain and ensures solutions are found for production issues;
· Contributes to product design and development by guiding the Ngara team on sample and product development according to WomenCraft’s current design direction.
· Tracks customer feedback after order is received and incorporate improvements in the production process.
Qualifications:
- Ability to commit 18 months to 2 years to living in a rural environment with limited access to stable internet and basic living conditions;
- University degree in business preferred; experience in sales required;
- Dynamic and creative person with highly effective written and verbal communication skills;
- Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and respond effectively to challenges, work effectively in a small, culturally diverse and team environment with minimal supervision;
- Demonstrated high level organizational and time management skills including the ability to manage workflows and balance competing priorities;
- Proficiency in all Mac Operating Systems and iWork suite and Microsoft Office suite;
Job Length and Location: This is a full-time position based in Ngara district, Kagera region, Tanzania, East Africa. The contract is one-year, renewable, however the position is expected be filled for an 18 month - two year duration. This position reports to WomenCraft’s Director and close collaboration with the Advisory Board.
Compensation: WomenCraft international positions are funded on a local salary level, so that they can be handed over to national staff and the positions can be sustainable. For international staff members, an additional stipend is provided for travel, medical insurance and housing.
