Environment Innovator
Opportunity in Tanzania!
Youth Challenge International (YCI) is recruiting an Innovator
between the ages of 18 and 35 with a background in environmental sciences for
a six-weekfocused project in Zanzibar, Tanzaniastarting
March 2014 (dates flexible).

This exciting opportunity will include a pre-project distance-learning program, followed by an intensive six-week placement in Zanzibar. While in-country, you will work with YCI’s partner organization, the Labayka Development Fund, to further the reach and relevance of their youth environment program.
Background:
The Labayka Development Fund supports sustainable socio-economic development in the Nungwi region, by providing education and training initiatives and promoting good health & hygiene practices. Labayka aims to protect and preserve the natural environment in Nungwi, as well as its cultural and historical assets.
Labayka and YCI have been working together for just over a year on various environmental and livelihoods projects. In early 2014, an Environmental Curriculum & Program Guide was developed for Labayka to use with youth and community members; however, the Program Guide has not been piloted yet with peer educators.
Key Project Activities Include:
• Design and conduct a training of trainers (TOT) workshop on the environmental conservation curriculum with peer educators
• Support Labayka staff to conduct community household campaigns about composting and trash collection, community clean-up and waste management murals.
Recommended Skills and Experience:
• Background in environmental sciences, environmental management and sustainability, or other relevant discipline
• 1-3 years relevant work experience
• Training skills; experience leading environmental issues discussions; good knowledge of environmental conservation techniques.
• Strong working knowledge of issues related to gender and youth
• Experience working with peer educators or mentors
• Proven effectiveness in cross-cultural settings
• Prior overseas experience an asset
