Capacity Building Consultant – Strategic Planning, Tanzania
We are currently seeking a Capacity Building Consultant to complete a Strategic Plan Review and Development for a local partner on the NAFAKA Staples Value Chain Activity, a $30 million project funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) under the Tanzania Feed the Future Initiative. Strengthening the capacity of Tanzanian partners to meet the demands of value chain actors is one of the project’s key activities. Possible start date is late March 2014.
Responsibilities:
·Develop a new five-year strategic plan by revising and updating the current plan and including a detailed organizational work plan for the first year of the planning period.
·Lead a review of the organization’s mission and vision.
·Conduct a needs assessment with farmers, key players, and stakeholders in order to better understand their needs and expectations from the local partner.
·Work closely with the local partner (and others as appropriate) to formulate short, intermediate, and long-term goals and objectives.
·Provide a “tool kit” with important templates to use to address their specific needs or operational purposes.
·Work with the local partner to identify, evaluate, and select one or more strategies that address each objective.
·Identify and prioritize relevant action steps for each objective together with appropriate time frames for completion.
·Present the draft strategic plan to the local partner’s executive leadership and board members for comments and suggested changes prior to finalizing the strategic plan.
·Present the final strategic plan to the local partner’s board and all relevant stakeholders.
Qualifications:
·Master’s degree or higher related to agriculture, management, economics, public policy, public administration, community development, or international affairs
·Significant strategic planning experience, preferably with small to medium-sized NGOs in international settings; Experience in East Africa is preferred.
·Outstanding oral and written communication skills including cultural sensitivity
·Fluency in English required.
