Who we are
Oxfamis an International NGO working with others to find lasting solutions to poverty and suffering in Tanzania and more than 80 other countries worldwide. In Tanzania Oxfam is working in Shinyanga,Simiyu, Geita, Mwanza, Dodoma, Morogoro, Tanga, Manyara and Arusha to implement three change goals that have been identified in the country strategy for 2010/2015, namely Economic Justice - Rural Livelihoods (including smallholder, pastoralist and women’s livelihoods), Gender Justice – equality for women and Social Justice centred in active citizenship and effective governance for quality essential services. Gender justice change goal aims at ending violence against women and to promote women’s leadership and economic empowerment.
We are currently looking for a dynamic and knowledgeable Programme Manager Governance to enhance the impact of our work in Tanzania.
Roles and responsibilities
Reporting to the Social Justice Coordinator, You will be responsible for the following;
- Management of the Governance programme and Chukua Hatua project.
- Coordinate the inception and planning of the consortium’s work to ensure the consortium is meeting donor’s requirements and standards.
- Introduce the consortium to other stakeholders and working to ensure the consortium partners are accomplishing tasks according to the work plan.
- Develop donor proposals for governance project as required.
- Lead on donor liaison and negotiations and ensure that donor expectations and reporting requirements are met.
- Prepare monthly governance progress reports for the Country Management Team, promote information sharing and learning between programmes and region.
- Keep stakeholders up to date with necessary information. Manage budget for the Chukua HatuaProject.
- Provide leadership in the preparation of learning events and collaborate with other managers to share experience and improve Oxfam’s ability to change policy and practise in Tanzania.
- Ensure that Chukua Hatua incorporates gender and HIV/AIDS.
Skills and competencies
- Good knowledge, technical competence and experience with creating and delivering developmentprogrammes.
- Strong strategic thinking, planning and organisational skills.
- Possess experience in all aspects of project management (assessment, design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, partner management and funding).
- Mature understanding of the grassroots and national development policy issues impacting Tanzania generally and the Governance environment specifically.
- Manage a strong team that is outcome focused.
- Excellent communication skills both written and spoken.
- Ability to present information in a clear and concise manner and to different audiences.
- Ability to track larger budget, stronger computer skills and committed to Oxfam’s objective.
