The Center for Global Development, an independent, non-profit think tank, seeks a policy outreach assistant to join its Communications and Policy team.
Job Summary:
The successful applicant will support CGD's policy engagement with Congress, the Executive Branch, and NGOs to increase the policy impact of the Center's research. The ideal candidate will be dynamic, energetic, and highly motivated to learn from and inform CGD’s outreach and policy program. Excellent written and oral communication skills are crucial to success in this position. S/he will be a quick study with a passion for the policy process and will display the skills and desire necessary to advance within a short time to a level of significant independent responsibility. Candidates with two to four years of Hill experience or with a policy-oriented NGO are encouraged to apply.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
As a member of the Communications and Policy team, the policy outreach assistant will have challenging and diverse responsibilities, including:
- Supporting CGD outreach with Congress and the Executive Branch and identifying and building opportunities for influencing policy dialogues and outcomes.
- Informing CGD researchers of USG priorities and positions.
- Helping to foster and maintain relationships with NGOs, embassies, and international organizations to educate them about CGD work; and inform CGD researchers of key audience priorities and positions.
- Supporting CGD's public education efforts to help build a US constituency for development through strategic partnerships and dissemination of CGD public education materials.
- Performing as a credible, articulate and effective spokesperson for CGD, in person and in writing.
- Drafting and designing outreach materials, including print and web content.
Qualifications:
- Hill experience strongly preferred.
- Outstanding oral and written communications skills, including the ability to represent CGD to a broad audience and create a positive and lasting impression.
- Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment.
- Individuals possessing both knowledge of economic development and a strong communications background are preferred.
Salary commensurate with experience.
