Akilah is searching for an energetic and creative candidate for the position ofEntrepreneurship Program Director (EPD). This individual will be responsible for the design and implementation of the launch of the Akilah Entrepreneurship Major (a total of 12 courses within the 3-year Business Diploma).
Reporting to the Country Director, the EPD will play an integral role in providing pedagogical leadership, vision and guidance for the Academic Team. The EPD will develop curriculum, work closely with the instructional staff, and provide ongoing professional training and development for Akilah instructors. In addition, the EPD will play a lead role in building, maintaining and growing relationships with Akilah current and future academic and community partners. The first intake of Entrepreneurship students is currently in their 1st year at Akilah, and will start their 2nd year courses on September 2, 2013. This program will be offered at our Kigali campus and then replicated at our new campuses in Bugesera District, Rwanda and Bujumbura, Burundi.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic vision and leadership for the development of the new Entrepreneurship track and make sure that the department is aligned with Akilah’s overall academic goals
- Work closely with Country Director to insure quality staffing, curriculum, professional development and student assessment data
- Develop, maintain and supervise Entrepreneurship curriculum so that it provides students with a rigorous and relevant, world-based academic experience. Collaborate with Akilah’s academic partners to fully develop all curriculum and modules for each course that will be managed on Moodle.org, our learner management system. Identify best open source content to integrate into the curriculum.
- Work with Admissions Director to assist in the interview process for finalists applying to the Entrepreneurship major
- Develop partnerships with other NGOs and relevant government ministries to identify potential candidates for the Entrepreneurship major, and provide a visible community presence for the Akilah Entrepreneurship major
- Design and lead ongoing professional development program for Entrepreneurship faculty in partnership with Academic Director
- Supervise Entrepreneurship faculty and provide regular reviews and feedback regarding the improvement of the Akilah classroom environment
- Teach or facilitate relevant Entrepreneurship related courses to Akilah students when important
- Lead effort to collect, analyze and use student data to strengthen academic program
- Work collaboratively with Country Director and staff to ensure consistent implementation of Akilah’s rules and core values
- Oversee routine administrative duties related to academics with the support of Office Manager, such as maintenance of textbook inventory and requisitioning educational materials for the Major
- After the academic program has been fully developed, develop a strategy for the development of campus social businesses that students will create and run, and manage a Social Enterprise Manager who will oversee daily operations.
- Develop the Business Plan Competition for 3rd year students in partnership with a global base of mentors and donors to provide start-up funding for Competition winners
- Build partnerships with local financial institutions for financing options for graduate businesses
Qualifications:
- 5-7 years experience in an educational institution focused on business and entrepreneurship education
- Demonstrated track record in developing and launching entrepreneurship education program
- Masters degree in a related field preferred
- Demonstrated passion for working with young women, an unshakable belief in their potential, and a commitment to the mission of Akilah
- Excitement about working in a vibrant and evolving start-up environment
- Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail
- An engaging and collaborative leadership style with mature interpersonal skills and the ability to juggle and manage multiple, competing priorities and deadlines
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications especially Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
- Willingness to commit to a minimum of 2 years in this position.
