WomenCraft is a community-driven social enterprise operating from Ngara, Tanzania.
WomenCraft’s mission is to increase economic opportunity in the post-conflict tri-border area of Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi by bringing rural women together, facilitating their growth and connecting their artistry to the global marketplace. Through WomenCraft, over 300 artisans advance themselves, raise stronger, families, stimulate their communities and inspire the world around them.
Position Description: This is an opportunity for you gain hands-on, international experience in women’s economic development with a not-for-profit social enterprise. WomenCraft creates sustainable livelihoods for former refugee and host community women by promoting their traditional skills in the production of fair trade products. As women progress, they need to build their capacity to effectively communicate and problem solve. Your job is to work to develop and carry out training sessions and to work individually with artisans and staff members so that all members of WomenCraft have the capacity to excel.
Expected Projects and Skills Learned:
Capacity Building Training. Identify needs and build the capacity of staff and selected artisans in English language, computer, organizational and communication skills so that they are able to effectively communicate with international supporters and customers and carry out their work functions.
Cross-cultural Teamwork Learn to work successfully across language and cultural barriers by working closely with a team of WomenCraft artisans and staff.
Strengthen artisan leadership. Train leadership committee members so that each leader can capitalize of the strengths of group members to create a strong, more unified, more autonomous group. Work with individual groups to assess and address strengths and weaknesses.
Further WomenCraft’s Artisan-centered approach. Look for avenues in which WomenCraft can further its mission of strengthening artisan management of WomenCraft.
Assist with Staff Development. Work closely with and train WomenCraft’s staff on areas under this job description. Be prepared to share your skills and abilities with staff, such as conducting trainings on computers, entrepreneurship, and other relevant areas.
Qualifications:
Experience with teaching or training in a multicultural setting.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent research, communication, interpersonal, computer and organizational skills;
Ability to take initiative and work independently;
Demonstrated interest in international/cross-cultural experiences;
Ability to be flexible and make contributions as a member of a team;
Interest in fair trade, refugees and/or international development
This position will be supervised by the Deputy Director.
