Tanzania Food and Nutrition Centre Community Development Advisor

The Tanzania Food and Nutrition Centre is implementing a three year project titled, "Cassava Adding Value for Africa" (C: AVA). C: AVA is being implemented in five African countries, namely Ghana, Malawi, Nigeria, Uganda and Tanzania with the objective of supporting sustainable and equitable high quality cassava flour chains in these countries thus improving the livelihood and incomes of small households and stakeholders in macro, small and medium scale enterprises. Cassava: Adding Value for Africa, (C: AVA) is funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and coordinated by the Natural Resources Institute (NRI), of the United Kingdom.

In order to carry out its role, TFNC is inviting applications from suitably qualified Tanzanians citizens in the following position: Community Development Advisor (one post)

The primary purpose of the Community Development Advisor is to support the research component of the project under the Cassava Growth market

Duties and responsibilities

Gathering information on the areas of climate change, processing and drying technology and product quality in relation to high quality cassava flour values chain.

Assist in development of organizational structure to facilitate development of village level business units Provide village level processing with support to implement gender strategy.

Undertake assessment of contractual relationships between participants in the processing chain

Qualifications and Experiences:

Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness, Gender, Community Development

A minimum of three years work experiences with rural communities, experiences in cassava processing will be an added advantage.

Practical understanding of project monitoring and evaluation

Ability to work in teams and motivate others

Excellent verbal and communication skills in English and Kiswahili

Must be computer proficient in Windows, Microsoft Office and internet use

Terms and Engagement

The post of Community Development Advisor carries 36 months contract and the duty station will be in Mtwara.
