Media and Communications Director
The International Water Association is a worldwide network for water professionals. We are recruiting a full-time Media and Communications Director to develop and implement the organization’s communications strategies. The Communications Director is part of the Senior Management Team and reports to the Executive Director.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing both internal and external communications across the entire IWA network. S/he must have excellent writing, oral communications and editing skills and a sound experience in public relations management, social media engagement, and press and media coverage. The position requires inspiration, insight, creativity, accuracy, energy, and attention to detail. It demands someone who looks at the big picture and connects with a wide variety of IWA audiences, stakeholders and constituents in a highly professional and engaging way. This position requires regular international travel.
Duty station: IWA Global Operations Office, The Hague, The Netherlands
Required Skills/Experience
• 10+ years of professional experience in marketing, communications and/or public-relations for relevant public entities, non-for profit organizations or private companies;
• Experience developing and implementing strategies to build and maintain effective interaction and cooperation amongst network members;
• Experience developing and implementing communications strategies and messaging bridging science – policy – media across the public and private sector;
• Experience in engaging with media and pitching print, radio and television interviews and stories;
• Experience in implementing online communications strategies, including web design and content development, social media, on-line video, and webinars;
• Excellent organizational skills with ability and experience to lead a team of professionals;
• Ability to multi-task, effectively prioritize and work accurately under time constraints;
• Experience with reporting on water and environment related issues.
This is a strategic and hands-on execution role, managing a small team, influencing a highly motivated senior management team and delivering results to implement the IWA strategy.
