Chief Accountant, FINCA DRC

About the Job: 
FINCA DRC is looking for a Chief Accountant (CA). Reporting to the CFO, the CA will directly supervise the head office and branch finance staff during the monthly, quarterly, and annual preparation of the institution’s financial statements.

Tasks and Responsibilities: 

• Act as the principal contact during the interim and final audits;
• Review all reports such as reconciliation and external party reports prepared by the finance teams for accuracy and completeness before submission to the chief financial officer for approval;
• Drive the annual budgeting and forecasting process to successful completion;
• Work with the legal department to ensure that the institution’s tax affairs are managed on a timely basis to ensure 100% compliance in terms of reporting and payment deadlines;
• Be a driving force in capacity building for head office and branch finance staff in terms of technical as well as managerial skills;
• Design a development plan for all employees under his/her direct supervision;
• Take on ad hoc tasks as delegated by the chief financial officer;
• Supervise head office finance staff and branch finance staff.

Qualifications: 

• Preparation of financial statements and the supervision of finance teams are essential;
• Financial analysis and reporting experience;
• Long/med/short term financial planning and budget preparation;
• Experience working with IAS;
• Demonstrated abilities in general ledger management;
• Treasury management;
• Proficient in MS Office suite, good understanding of IT issues and the role and possibilities of IT in financial management, familiarity with implementing and working with complex integrated management information and accounting systems (including database management);
• International experience desirable, exposure working in the region an asset;
• Degree in Accounting or Chartered Accountancy equivalent required;
• Minimum experience of 4 years preferably with a bank or other regulated financial institution;
• Experience working for the Big 4 audit firms (PWC, Deloitte & Touche, KPMG and Ernst & Young) is a big asset;
• Fluent with the 4 main local language of DRC;
• Fluency in English and French: written and spoken;
• Knowledge of the Basic MS Office packages and knowledge of Financial and Accounting System;
• Availability to travel (10-20% of the time) to various branches as may be required.
