Save the Children has been operational in Kenya since 1984, providing support to children through developmental and humanitarian relief programmes delivered both directly and through local partners.
Current programming focuses on child protection, child rights governance, education, health, HIV/AIDS, livelihoods, nutrition and WASH.
Save the Children has an operational presence in Dadaab Refugee Camp, Eldoret, Habaswein, Mandera, Meru and Wajir.
Currently, we have a staff complement of approximately 370 staff and expenditure of approximately US$30 million this year.

Key Areas Of Accountability:
- Ensure that all safe hygiene promotion interventions are implemented in a timely manner and quality supervision, standards and reporting is achieved.
- Assist in the carrying out of needs assessments, baseline studies and periodic studies, and feedback findings to stakeholders.
- Plan activities to reduce WASH-related risks and ensure that action is taken to mitigate priority water and sanitation related health risks in identified communities.
- Collate data from community health workers, community health extension workers and prepare regular reports on activities and WASH conditions for monitoring.
- Coordinate with other SC WASH field staff to ensure that the various aspects of the WASH response are integrated and well -coordinated.
- Liaise with community leaders and other sectors and agencies working locally in order to coordinate within the WASH sector and between sectors such as health and shelter.
- Train, mentor and promote safe WASH practices, including effective and appropriate use and maintenance of WASH facilities and services in communities in line with relevant standards, codes of conduct, and humanitarian principles so that they promote local capacities and sustainable operations.
- Participate in WASH coordination meetings
- Facilitate appropriate community involvement in the design and delivery of essential WASH services and facilities.
- Enable effective dialogue with the affected community to allow the agency to be held to account for the quality of the WASH programme.
- Use participatory approaches as much as possible throughout to identify needs for non-food items relevant to hygiene, participate in the choice of items, targeting strategy, promotion of effective use, and post-distribution monitoring.
- Organize day-to-day logistics related to hygiene promotion activities.
- Consider gender, protection, HIV, the environment, and other important cross-cutting concerns in programme implementation and reporting; carry out activities in a way that reflects the needs of specific groups and individuals e.g. elderly people, children, and people with disabilities.
- Participate in any other program related activities as directed by the line manager.

Qualifications And Experience
- A minimum of a Diploma in public health or health or hygiene promotion or community development or education or water and sanitation.
- At least one year of practical experience in relevant community development, health, WASH, or similar programmes.
- Good knowledge and experience of working with local partner agencies.
- Experience and understanding of Hygiene Promotion and community mobilisation in relation to water and sanitation activities.
- Sensitivity to the needs and priorities of different sectors of a community.
- Familiarity with the Somali culture, ability to develop respect from a wide range of people and strong ability to communicate effectively on hygiene matters.
- Training/counterpart development skills.
- Ability to work well in a team in difficult circumstances.
- The ability to collect data and present concise reports, sometimes at short notice, reflecting the problems and possible solutions for particular situations.
- Diplomacy, tact and negotiation skills in order to work with people at managerial and on occasions, government staffs. The post holder should also be at ease in working with local people.
- Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions
- Prepared to live and work in an uncertain security environment
- Ability and willingness to travel and stay in the field
