Background:
BBC Media Action uses media and communications to reduce poverty and people understand their rights in developing countries. To achieve this, Media Action partners with civil society, local media and governments to:
Produce creative programmes in multi-media formats, based on robust research, which inform and engage audiences around key development issues.
Strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure.
BBC Media Action delivers a portfolio of media projects in Tanzania. It seeks to expand this portfolio of work, but also ensure that existing projects are delivered to time, to budget and to the highest standards, and in accordance with BBC editorial values as well as Media Action methodologies.
Job purpose:
The multimedia journalist is responsible for researching, writing, capturing visual content and editing stories for multiple platforms.
Main duties:
Gathers and verifies factual information for Haba na Haba weekly topics through interview, observation, and research.
Organizes material, determines slant or emphasis, according to prescribed editorial style and format standards.
Shoots video and still photos to illustrate the behind-the-scenes aspect of Haba na Haba.
Edits, or assists in editing, videos for all multimedia platforms.
Write and produce quality content for multiple media platforms.
Work cooperatively with Haba na Haba production team on assigned stories, if one is assigned.
Assist producers in preparing Haba na Haba.
Assist the Haba na Haba staff in preparing content for the show’s multi media platforms.
Report, write, capture visual content, edit and produce content for multiple platforms on deadline, such as Internet and digital channels.
Required knowledge, skills and experience:
Computer literacy required, including newsroom computer systems.
Videography and non-linear editing experience preferred.
Knowledge of broadcast quality camera equipment.
Edit video on Final Cut Pro and Adobe Edition editing systems, or similar equipment.
Strong broadcast and BBC style writing skills.
Proficient at posting content to various websites and other social media platforms.
Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment. Fluent in
English and Swahili with ability to write reports in these languages.
Multimedia experience especially in online platforms, experience working with mobile services desirable.
Excellent interpersonal skills, communication & influencing skills, ability to work in teams, strong understanding of and commitment towards BBC editorial values.
