Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH) in collaboration with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are undertaking a project to establish surveillance systems for Most-at-Risk Populations (MARPs) in Uganda. The project based at Makerere University School of Public Health now invites applications for the following position:
DATA MANAGER (1 position)
Job Summary: The Data Manager will create, update, maintain, validate databases, and provide expertise in analysis of data for the MARPs Surveillance project.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Develop an in-depth understanding of the program/ research study’s design, goals and implementation so that s/he can participate fully in the successful execution of the study.
• Develop, support and manage databases for the MARPs surveillance project.
• Undertake a wide range of data management processes including data security, ensuring all data are entered routinely within set timelines and any data queries are followed up promptly, and production of reports.
• Provide feedback to the Project Manager regarding the quality assurance of data, detected deficiencies and corrective action in the databases.
• Deal with routine problems arising in the course of data handling
• Perform data cleaning and ensure that all data entered is of high quality.
• Develop data analysis plans
• Conduct data analysis and participate in writing of reports and other publications.
• Report writing
• Perform other duties assigned by the Project Manager.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• A Bachelors Degree in computer Science, applied mathematics or statistics and information technology from a recognized university.
• Ability to design/develop computer databases, demonstrated experience with EPI INFO, STATA /SAS programming for data manipulation/report writing, production, processing and documentation skills.
• Demonstrated ability in cleaning data and performing data quality assurance procedures
• Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and writing.
• Must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to coordinate and work as a team
• Be able to prioritize work and meet set deadlines
• Field experience with data collection is essential.
Minimum Experience and Exposure
Two years experience in data management.
Experience in monitoring and evaluation will be an added advantage
Basis of Offer: The position will be offered on contractual basis for two years renewable upon satisfactory performance.
