About us:
ODI (www.odi.org.uk) aims to inspire and inform policy and practice to reduce poverty by locking together high-quality applied research and practical policy advice.
Our Protected Livelihoods and Agricultural Growth Programme (PLAG) is seeking a Research Officer to contribute to its high-quality and innovative research, policy advice and public affairs programme in the area of access to natural resources.
Recent highlights of PLAG's work include:
- High food prices: drivers and policy implications. PLAG produces monthly bulletins that track movements in cereals prices and analyse the key drivers and policy responses. The programme recently convened an event discussing projected food prices over the next decade.
- Emissions, mitigation and low carbon growth in agriculture. The PLAG team has been involved in work looking at reducing emissions in agriculture while meeting the food and nutrition needs of an expanding global population.
- Biofuels: PLAG has undertaken work on sustainable biofuel policies, the economics of biofuels outside of policy influences, and country case studies in East Africa.
About you:
The successful candidate will have:
- A degree and post-graduate degree in natural resources, agricultural economics or a related discipline
- Active knowledge of key institutional institutions, such as FAO, UNEP, IFAD, IFPRI or similar international bodies concerned with agriculture and natural resources
- Experience of drafting research reports, briefing papers and other research outputs
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate successfully and demonstrate cultural awareness
- Excellent analytical, writing and presentation skills
- Multi-tasking skills
- The ability to work as part of a team as well as on your own initiative.
