Xi’an Jiaotong - Liverpool University - English Language Centre
Applications are invited for positions in the English Language Centre (ELC) at Xi’an Jiaotong - Liverpool University. Successful applicants should hold an MA in Applied Linguistics/TESOL, or a similar type of qualification. They should be excellent team players and be able to offer support and training in the teaching of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) to colleagues. Experience and interest in any of the following areas is desirable: relevant experience of working with Chinese students at tertiary level; pre-sessional or in-sessional EAP teaching; EAP syllabus and materials design; mentoring colleagues; and Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) /use of VLEs.
Xi’an Jiaotong - Liverpool University (XJTLU) is a unique collaborative institution, the first and currently the only university in China to offer both UK and Chinese accredited undergraduate degrees. Formed in 2006, the first cohort of students graduated in August 2010. The university now has nearly 5,000 students studying in ten academic departments. The language of instruction in years two to four is English. The ELC is responsible for providing English study skills tuition for all students at the University, particularly in the first (foundation) year. There are currently more than 100 staff in the ELC.
XJTLU is located in the Higher Education Town of Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP), 80km from Shanghai and connected by high speed rail and road links. SIP is a major growth zone, including operations run by nearly one-fifth of the Fortune 500 top global companies. The broader Suzhou area encompasses the spirit of both old and new in China, with the historic old town a major World Heritage Site. Greater Suzhou is now the fourth largest concentration of economic activity in China in terms of GDP, and SIP offers a high quality of life.
The salary is in a range from 17,407 to 26,760 RMB per month, depending upon qualifications and experience. In addition, members of staff are entitled to accommodation and travel allowances, medical insurance, and relocation expenses.
