CARE seeks a world of hope, tolerance and social justice, where poverty has been overcome and people live in dignity and security. Climate change poses the single greatest threat in history to achieving our vision. In order to achieve social justice and poverty reduction impact on a sustainable basis, and to protect vulnerable people-- particularly women and girls-- who are dependent on natural resources in areas with severe environmental restrictions, CARE is seeking resumes from senior climate change and natural resource management experts interested in long- and short-term positions for anticipated US Government funded projects to be implemented in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
The projects will focus on a range of climate change interventions including: Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD), adaptation, carbon finance, food security, increasing agricultural productivity and enhancing the viability of natural resource-based livelihoods to protect the most vulnerable social groups from the negative impacts of environmental change. Projects will emphasize building local and regional capacity to increase vulnerable populations’ resilience, diversify their livelihood strategies and address equitable access to, control over, and benefit from natural resources.
Candidates will have expertise in one or more of the following climate change-focused technical areas: REDD, adaptation, NRM, carbon finance, food security and/or livelihoods development.
Qualifications:
· Master’s Degree in natural resource management/forestry/climate science/environmental studies/social sciences or related field. PhD Preferred.
· Demonstrated knowledge of one or more climate change related topics including: adaptation and development, NRM, REDD, livelihoods diversification, and/or disaster risk reduction.
· 10 years of experience in international development, with at least 5 years of hands-on experience in managing complex climate change related projects.
· Demonstrated experience conceiving and implementing strategic initiatives, including sustainable approaches for engaging women in climate change and /or natural resources management initiatives.
· Extensive knowledge of public policy issues (political, social, economic, and scientific) related to climate change adaptation and natural resource management, couple with hands on advocacy experience.
· Proven expertise in vulnerability assessments and adaptation.
· Experience designing and implementing training programs.
· Excellent interpersonal skills, including strong presentation, facilitation, negotiation, advocacy and coaching/mentoring skills.
· Excellent communication and reporting skills;
· Ability to analyze and think critically and to communicate coherently.
· Ability to network with key policy makers, the climate community, researchers and industry experts.

• Previous Chief of Party/Deputy Chief of Party experience;
