Nutrition Coordinator
Reports to:
Health and Nutrition Programme Manager
Job Location: Aweil with some travel to Juba

Contract Details:
1 year unaccompanied, Grade B
Job Purpose: To develop, manage and coordinate the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of nutrition interventions within Concern’s broader primary health care programme in Aweil West, including support for the effective scale-up of Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) and other nutrition programme activities to address the current (and any future) nutrition emergencies. The programme interventions need to be planned in collaboration/consultation with the health and nutrition programme manager and relevant stakeholders including national, county and local level health offices and local partners. The post holder will also be responsible for representing Concern and coordinating with key stakeholders in nutrition at National, State and County levels. One of the key purposes of the job is to build the capacity of the national staff as well as county level counterparts within County Health Department/s.


Main duties &
Responsibilities Programme Development and Management
• Develop project concept notes, proposals and budgets as needed, particularly building on lessons learned from the programme experience.
• Develop project implementation/work plan/s with SMART M&E framework for CMAM (IMSAM) and related nutrition interventions.
• Together with the community nutritionist and health/nutrition team develop an integrated community mobilisation plan (to be part of the M&E framework and work plan) to ensure high coverage of CMAM screening across Aweil West and North Counties with clear behavioural change communication outcomes.
• Prepare timely and quality reports (both narrative and financial) to fulfil internal (Country, Regional and HQ) and external (Ministry, Donors and Cluster) requirements.
• Develop detailed procurement plan and clearly outline the quantities and specification for all required nutrition materials well in advance and liaise with the logistics department to ensure details and timelines are well understood.

Representation, Coordination and Liaison
• Ensure effective coordination with relevant stakeholders especially Cluster partners and CHD.
• Liaise with the donors, LGAs and other relevant stakeholders for successful programme implementation.
• Represent and actively participate in appropriate national and state meetings/workshops and remain up-to-date of key nutrition developments in South Sudan.

Staff Management and Development
• Participation in recruitment of staff as needed and train, mentor and supervise them to ensure quality CMAM, community mobilisation/ behavioural change and other nutrition programme activities, based on assessment of training needs.
• Manage a team of nutrition staff and focus on building the capacity of the national nutrition staff to ensure sustainable management of the nutrition programme.
• Ensure effective training and mentoring of local government health staff at county and health facility level in CMAM and other nutrition activities and monitoring.
• Participate in recruitment and management of consultants as and when necessary.

Monitoring, Review and Supervision
• Ensure a strong monitoring system is in place and that programme data on key nutrition indicators, including CMAM performance, programme coverage, community participation, health and nutrition knowledge and practice, and quality of service delivery, is collected, analysed, reviewed and responded to on an ongoing basis
• Adapt and improve the existing programme on an ongoing basis, based on careful review of monitoring and evaluation findings
• Ensure regular assessments and analyses of the nutrition situation in the programme area and flag any indication of deteriorating nutrition situation.
• Ensure effective supervisory mechanisms are in place including CHD joint supervision schedules.
• Undertake and/or manage regular nutrition surveys being conducted as per the local and organisational requirements.
• Undertake any other relevant duties/tasks as assigned by the Health and Nutrition Programme Manager



Person specification:

Essential:
• Post-graduate or degree in nutrition and/or public health qualification with significant nutrition programming experience
• At least two years experience in a developing country developing and managing a nutrition programme.
• Experience of designing, implementing and analysing nutrition surveys.
• Experience in analyzing and interpreting data and writing reports to a high technical standard.
• Experience in the supervision, training and mentoring of nutrition and health staff
• Involvement in Nutrition policy development
• Strong organisational, interpersonal, communications and networking skills.
• Good training, presentation and persuasions skills.
• Good verbal and written communication especially in English.
• Local language skills will be an advantage.
• Aptitude to learn.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Flexible, reliable, culturally sensitive, ability to work and retain composure under pressure,
• Ability to work both independently, and as part of a team.
• Willingness to travel and live in basic conditions
• Familiarity with IT equipment, HF/VHF radios



Desirable:
• At least 2 years experience implementing CMAM
• Experience conducting, analysing and writing up nutrition/ health survey
• Experience of CTC approach (inpatient and outpatient therapeutic and supplementary feeding)
• Experience of working in nutrition in a post-conflict setting.
• Experience in South Sudan will be an advantage.
