MAG is a humanitarian organisation clearing the remnants of conflict for the benefit of communities worldwide. MAG is co-laureate of the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize. We deliver practical, positive solutions that assist the process of peace and stability in conflict and former conflict countries. During the past 20 years we have safely found, removed and destroyed millions of landmines, bombs and missiles.
Having worked in the Republic of Congo (RoC) in 2009, MAG has recently reestablished operations and is therefore seeking a Country Programme Manager to support operations restarting. MAG’s project in the Republic of Congo (RoC) aims to make a contribution to peace-keeping initiatives and security efforts through working with and building the capacity of the Forces Armées Congolaises (FAC) and the local population in the removal of UXO and delivery of Mine Risk Education.
Based in Brazzaville and reporting to the HQ Regional Operations Manager, the postholder will be responsible for the day to day management of all aspects of the project and be responsible for ensuring that project objectives are met. You will provide effective leadership and management to implement plans aimed at maximizing MAG’s effectiveness in terms of responding to the mine / UXO/SALW problem in RoC.
As the manager of a small team of international and national staff, you will need previous experience of working overseas in international aid or development in a similar role, including expertise in programme and project design, development, management, monitoring and evaluation. A key element of this role will be liaison with new and existing donors, government agencies, UN coordinating bodies and national/international NGO’s. In addition, you will be responsible for grant and budget management, supporting and capacity building national staff, overseeing logistical requirements and contributing to strategic and business planning.
The successful candidate will also need experience of managing a team and managing finances. You should be able to demonstrate an ability to work independently and be managed from a distance. You will need to be able to demonstrate an awareness of personal security and cultural sensitivities and a diplomatic manner.
Due to the location of this role, fluency in French and English is essential.
The salary band for this role is £28,995 - £32,634 plus per diem of circa US $14,000 pa. MAG will also provide accommodation, three international leave flights per year and comprehensive insurance, amongst other benefits.
