RCN Justice and Democratie (http: www.rcn-ong.be:) is a Belgian non-governmental organization working in the area of good governance & rule of law in post-conflict countries. RCN seeks to contribute to the strengthening of the Southern Sudanese legal system by enhancing the capacity and skills of the Ministry of Legal Affairs & Constitutional Development (MoLACD). Formed in 1994 after the Rwandan genocide, RCN has been working mainly in Africa, more particularly in Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
RCN has been active in Southern Sudan since October 2007 and has conducted intensive legal training programmes for prosecutors, support staff, provided logistical support and training materials. RCN’s current scope of activities includes elementary training of Government of Southern Sudan prosecutors/legal counsel and support staff on key Southern Sudanese laws, professional ethics and orientation to common law principles.
RCN is currently seeking Trainers to participate in the following; Training of Trainers course, training of prosecutors/legal counsels and training of support staff of the Ministry of Legal Affairs & Constitutional Development over a period of 4 months.
Duties and Responsibilities • To identify and mentor potential Southern Sudanese from a pool of MoLACD trainees during the course of the training.. This course is aimed at providing the necessary skills to enable the selected candidates to conduct dynamic and interactive training sessions throughout the coming years; • Under the supervision of the Head of Mission, work closely with the project Associate to develop training guides on the syllabus for the upcoming training of prosecutors/legal counsel and support staff; • Assist in the development of dynamic and interactive training programs and workshops; • Conduct five month intensive training sessions with prosecutors/legal counsel, and other support staff of MoLACD. These training sessions will cover various aspects of the Law, including, inter alia, Introduction to Law, Civil and Criminal procedure, Law of Evidence and Professional ethics and skills; • Monitor and evaluate trainees during the course of the training. • Together with the Project Associate, implement and distribute the developed training manuals; • Respect for and adherence to the values embodied in the RCN charter.
Skills and Qualifications • Advanced University degree or equivalent in Law from a Common Law jurisdiction; • Experience in conduction training or other pedagogic related activity for legal professionals; • At least 10 years experience within the legal system preferably in East Africa region. • knowledge of South Sudan and its current and historical context; Willingness to familiarise with relevant SS laws • Excellent English language skills and facilitation skills • Inter-personal skills with advanced communication skills to constructively interact with the trainees, relevant stakeholders and RCN staff.
