Food for the Hungry is an International Christian-based Non-Governmental Organization operating in over 60 countries around the world. Currently Food for the Hungry is implementing health, food security and education programs in Upper Nile, Jonglei and Northern Bahrgazal States in Sothern Sudan. FH adheres to the values and principles of Christianity, shares the love of Jesus Christ with the community it serves and FH/S, hereby Seeks to recruit Accountants for its programs in South Sudan.
SUMMARY The Accountant will assist the Finance Manager in Management and Stewardship of organization resources. He /she will actively participate in budgeting and cash flow management, stewardship and management of organization resources, compliance management and internal control systems, and financial tracking and reporting. Other duties may be assigned by FH Sudan Finance Manager
Key Result 1: Budgeting and Cash flow Management
• Assist the Finance Manager in implementation, monitoring and evaluation of Program and Project budgets in full compliance with FH Policy, government & donor regulations. • Support the Finance Manager and project staff to prepare, monitor and control projects budgets, ensuring that the primary responsibility of budget preparation remains with programs manager and project officers. Assess Area Program Office and Project cash requirements and facilitate cash disbursement and documenting disbursals in an accurate and timely way. Responsible for the safety and efficient operation of petty cash and bank accounts in Malakal (South Sudan) ensuring that there is optimum cash management, • Ensure accountability of program advances according to policy guidelines.
Key Result 2: Stewardship and management of organization resources
Assist the Finance Manager in oversight over organizational resources, including asset control and cost effective use. • Ensure existence of adequate internal control system and resources are used effectively and efficiently. • Ensure that FH Sudan assets are safeguarded and used properly. This will include pro-actively seeking ways to strengthen existing controls while minimizing the administrative burden. • Monitor procurement processes by the organization and ensure that procurement is done in a way that the organization obtains quality, competitive and timely goods and does so in compliance with government and donor rules and regulations. • Ensure good relationship between FH Sudan and suppliers and maintain a credible list of suppliers. You will check and verify all payments relating to procurement and ensure they are in line with the particular budgets. • Participate actively in quarterly review meetings with project officer to review the financial reports and project financial status and variance report.
Key Result 3: Compliance Management and Control Systems
• Develop a thorough understanding of the grants received and the terms surrounding them and ensure that FH Policies and procedures, donor’s and government regulations are complied with consistently. • Liaise with Government offices, other organizations and individuals in all aspects of financial management of FH Sudan and keep the Finance Manager informed on all action and progress. • Ensure that all necessary statutory taxes are paid on timely basis and file the necessary returns with the appropriate government bodies.
Key Result 4: Financial Tracking and reporting • Prepare field journals and oversee accuracy, • Ensure that the minimum levels of documentation as required by FH policy are met or exceeded and that financial documents are well coded, processed and filed in a safe location • Consistently review the cash flow position and inform the Finance Manager and Program staff on the financial situation or position of Project offices.
Qualifications and competences To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty/function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. • The candidate must have a Bachelors degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Management, or related subject from a credible college or University. • Three to Five years relevant work experience in Not Profit Organization, UN or Non Governmental Organizations. • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from variety of audiences. • Commitment to serving the poor and vulnerable populations in challenging environments consistent to FHS’ Christian foundation and beliefs as expressed in the Vision, Mission and Values of FH. • Ability to write reports, business correspondences, and computer skills, Microsoft office and other spreadsheet programs. • Strong analytical and problem solving skills and ability to work creatively and independently both in the field and in the office • Strong team player and ability to work with culturally diverse groups of people Benefits: Per the scale of the organization.
