Purpose:
The Vice President, Evaluations leads the Evaluations department within the Corporate Development function at Barrick working in partnership with the Vice President Corporate Development each reporting directly to the Senior Vice President Corporate Development. The Vice President Evaluations provides technical support and guidance for all mergers, acquisitions, and divestiture efforts. The Evaluations team group works in close partnership with the Corporate Development and Exploration teams to conduct strategic analyses of identified potential assets for the financial and operational growth of the Company. This individual will lead a team of dedicated technical professionals who apply their skills, knowledge, and experience to analyze current and potential mining assets. The subject of an Evaluation can span the range from early stage exploration project to mature operation. The Evaluation of an asset comments on the value, operability, technical feasibility, and general attractiveness of an asset.

• Aligns and establishes the Evaluation department strategy with the Corporate Development functional and Company-wide growth strategy and risk profile
• In partnership with the Corporate Development and Exploration provides timely and accurate evaluations of potential asset and property acquisitions
• Leads the technical analyses and evaluation of the potential acquisition and divestiture strategies to identify the value, operability, feasibility, operational risk profile, and technical elements, with a balanced understanding of the overall business/financial assessment
• Maintain the Evaluation guidelines, including benchmarking data, evaluation tools and/or calculators, and develop capital estimation tool
• Leads the Evaluation team and ensure ongoing performance, training and development of the staff in the department
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Minimum fifteen total years of experience including:
• Minimum five yrs business experience within the mining industry, preferable precious metals, and with “hands on” experience at a mining operation or in projects as an engineer with a track record of successful advancement.
• Five to ten years proven experience in Investment Banking and/or Corporate Development
• Experience working in a multinational organization
• Extensive technical experience in one of the following disciplines; Mining, Metallurgy or Geology
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
Bachelor degree in Engineering, mining, mineral processing, or geological
• MBA or CFA is an asset
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
• Frequent travel required (up to 25%)
