OVERALL DESCRIPTION
General Description of the Role:
The primary role of the Livelihood Assistant Programme (APM) will be to support the implementation of the Agricultural Program which is targeted at improving agricultural production and market linkages in Warrap State, South Sudan. The selected candidate will rove between two GOAL field bases (Twic 60% and Agok 40%) to provide technical development and training support to the Livelihood Program Managers. The Livelihood APM will coordinate with the Livelihoods Programme Manager on each respective base to promote integration and insure that activities on each base are developing in unison across both field areas.
Key Duties:
At program level
- Field level implementation and technical support of the agricultural programme in Twic and Agok.
- Coordinate with the Livelihoods Programme Manager for day to day implementation of proposed activities.
- Work to promote and implement a practical integration between livelihood programme across multiple field areas and other GOAL programmes; namely REFLECT.
- Build staff capacity on agricultural production, environmentally-sound agricultural practices, farmer association promotion, marketing, etc,
- Facilitate continuous training of the community extensionists on extension packages techniques and community approach.
- Build livelihoods extensionists’ capacity for engaging in advocacy to increase the opportunities for communities to diversify their livelihoods over long term.
- Facilitate the implementation of the field surveys and livelihoods assessments.
- Support the identification of suitable beneficiaries.
- Facilitate the distribution of agriculture inputs to identified beneficiaries.
- Facilitate the monitoring of field surveys and distribution conducted by staff.
- Facilitate the monitoring of planted material distributed by GOAL.
On reporting
- Prepare regular / timely progress reports as required by the Livelihoods Programme Manager.
General
- To keep the Livelihoods Programme Coordinator appraised of all activities and any difficulties that may arise, including external influences in the operating environment.
- Discuss and agree any changes in programming or project arrangements (including guidelines, protocols, forms and procedures) with the Programme Corodinator, Aarea Coordinator and ACD Programmes prior to implementation.
- To work at all times in a manner that promotes teamwork within GOAL and assists in the achievement of GOAL programme aims.
- All other duties as instructed by the Programme Coordinator, Area Coordinator and ACD Programmes.
Requirements:
- Background and / or professional experience in agriculture or rural development, being an advantage.
- Experience in working with and through partnership with local development actors and local authorities,
- Capacity to understand overall strategies and see how it needs to translate into concrete activities
- Effective at developing training materials and taking lead on training activities to program staff and community groups.
- Oral and written English essential.
- Spoken Arabic / Uduk advantageous.
- Staff management, personnel and training skills.
- Good computer skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel essential, advantageous.
- Capacity to understand the place and the impact of community/local knowledge and community/local issues on a livelihood and food security program
