AfromediaNet is a network of leading journalist and independent experts specialising in human rights, development issues and related humanitarian affairs in Africa. We aim to foster an exchange of information and the sharing of knowledge among our professional members.
Objective of Role:
A three to six month traineeship during which time trainees: gather information and conduct substantive research and information analysis in order to produce analytical reports and academic articles on a range of topics related to human rights, development issues and humanitarian affairs in Africa.
The trainee will provide support for the day-to-day operations of AfromediaNet while also contributing to publications and advances in the strategic direction of the organisation. Predominantly, the goal of the programme is to contribute to the development of a new generation of leaders and decision-makers such that these individuals are dedicated to utilising their voices and experience in furthering the international aid community’s central role in Africa.
Profile Applicants are required to possess relevant qualifications and a keen interest in development issues. They should view the traineeship as an opportunity to gain further experience and knowledge of humanitarian affairs.
Education • A completed degree in Mass Communications, International Relations, Development Studies, Business Administration, Social Sciences or a related area, or currently enrolled in a Masters programme or equivalent;
• High fluency in English, with strong writing and research skills;
• A keen interest in international affairs;
• An ability to work independently;
Duties and Accountabilities:
•Preparation and submission of letters of inquiry, grant proposals and reports.
•Researching & targeting various donor prospects, including individual donors, foundations, private sector company, Governments, cooperation agencies and many other donor institutions, liaise with donors, maintain and update donor lists;
•Maintain & expand communication with the media, CSOs, governments & donors on specific projects.
•Design, write, edit & proof read information/dossiers or media packages.
•Establish and maintain useful contacts
