DUTIES
Working as part of the program design team, the Program Design Officer (PDO) will develop and steward relationships with public sector donors toward securing significant new funding for AWF’s programs in southern Africa. This role will require that the PDO understand donor priorities and, in coordination with AWF’s program operations team, translate those priorities into actionable one to five year program plans. Because the PDO will develop long-term relationships with donor-agency personnel, the PDO will work to influence local, national and regional policy so as to be convergent with AWF’s strategic plans and conservation methodologies.
The PDO’s work does not stop once funds are granted. The PDO will act as a steward of those funds throughout the grant life-cycle. Working in partnership with the Heartland Director, the PDO will participate in managing the effective implementation of grant funding, as well as providing technical insight and review. In order to be effective, the PDO must be engaged in and knowledgeable about activities on the ground in her/his Heartlands.
The PDO will periodically engage with program technical leadership to document lessons learned and thereby improve AWF’s methodologies and vision for the future of conservation in Africa.
