Under the guidance of the Project Leader and the Project Coordinator, the Farming Systems Agronomist will provide technical assistance to Partner NGO staff in identifying crop production technologies suitable for different situations within the project area, in demonstrating those and in training their staff. The position is for the EU-GoB funded (Sustainable Soil Management for Food Security of Marginal and Small Farmers of Active Food Plains and Charlands of Bangladesh (SUSFER)" Project (Lot-4, Peat Basin Area)
Major accountabilities/Responsibilities
• Provide leadership in technology transfer, identifying technologies, providing technical input to NGO Stagg, beneficiaries and communities related to project activities
• Identify training needs; organize training courses for NGO technical staff on modern crop production technologies, soil health and fertilizer management, bio-village and related issues at the field level
• Assist implementing partners in organizing technology demonstration program and assist in farmer to farmer extension of technologies and monitor field level performance
• Organize collection of soil samples, testing, record keeping and preparation of fertilizer cards
• Develop technology manuals and help in conducting required training
• Prepare and submit reports to Project Coordinator/Project leader on various related issues
• Assist NGO partners in applying community participatory farming systems approach
• Perform other related activities as and when required by the Project leader and Project Coordinator
Qualification requirements
• Postgraduate degree in Agriculture, preferably in Agronomy, Farming Systems, or Soil Science with a farming systems background from a recognized university
• At least 7 years of experience in similar position of working in agriculture, on-farm research, technology transfer, soil fertility management, rural development or related projects is essential; experiences in community participatory, farming systems-oriented work will be highly valued
• The Farming Systems Agronomist should possess strong and proven capability of communication, working in a team of multiple discipline and be fluent in spoken and written English; He/She should have capability and willingness to travel to remote areas and working with poor farming communities; ability to work under pressure in a multicultural work environment and willing to undertake frequent travel to rural areas will be needed
