VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT:SECURITY OFFICER (AMISOM-04/2011)

2. JOBPURPOSE:
To assist in the design, provision and implementation of all security services to protect mission staff and assets.
3. MAJORDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Monitor and research on the state of the mission’s security;
- Monitor the state of security preparedness
- Update "security information system";
- Establish regular contacts on the field, taking reports and analyzing developments regarding the mission’s security;
- Research current collateral security information from media, from the field and other sources on a daily basis;
- Analyse accumulated information and maintain a continuous picture of evolving local, national and regional events affecting the security of mission’s staff
- Monitor predictive indicators and early warning type information;
- Identify security, crime, political and military trends that would increase risk to mission’s taff in the field;
- Coordinate the draft of periodic and incidental reports;
- Supervise the draft of a daily security developments report
- Prepare first draft briefs, notes, reports, studies and recommendation on critical issues of interest to senior management decision-making;
- Follow up on the accumulation of data input for period trend reports,
- Review first draft after-action reports following all incidents;
- Monitor security-related preparedness and compliance of duty stations;
- Monitor the security planning and preparedness;
- Assess whether the duty station has a current Security Plan and that it covers all aspects required;
- Determine if the appropriate equipment and resources are on hand to implement a Security Plan, particularly vehicles and emergency communication systems;
- Check that the information contained in Security Plan has been properly distributed to all staff and that key individuals are aware of and capable of performing all required actions;
- Undertake or participate in security missions, as required, including high risk, to perform security assessments
- Perform any other duties as directed by supervisor(s).
- QUALIFICATIONS
Candidatesmust have a minimum of Master’s University Degree inDisaster or Emergency Management, Political Science, Military Science, PublicAdministration, Law Enforcement, Law or similarfields
- EXPERIENCE
Candidatesmust have at least 8 years work experience in a related field with Government,NGO, think tank, or similar multilateral, regional or internationalinstitution.
- SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
· Abilityto work closely with governments, NGOs and multi-lateral institutions incomplex political affairs, peace and security undertakings.
· Computerliterate and well versed in the use of the Internet, Power Point, Excel andWord.
· Excellent,negotiating, analytical and communication skills.
· Peacekeeping,military, police or security services experience essential
· Ability to plan, coordinate and implement security operations inthe field
· Ability to expeditiously learn, understand and implement a widerange of African Union security management policies and procedures
· Abilityto work in a multicultural setting
· Mustbe prepared to work in a hardship context and highly pressurised and sometimeshazardous environment
7. AGE REQUIREMENT:
Candidates must preferably be between 30 to 45years old.
- LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT :
Proficiency in at least oneof the African Union working languages (Arabic, English, French andPortuguese). Knowledge of other working languages would be an added advantage.

- TENURE OF APPOINTMENT:
Theappointment shall be for an initial period of one (1) year, the first three (3)months of which shall be on probation. It shallbe renewable subject to performance and availability of funds.
