This position serves as a recognized expert in strategic information for the agency in Malawi with responsibility for developing policy and objectives, appraising programs, and initiating requirements for major scientific surveys/studies, research or projects to identify and solve public health problems. The strategic information areas of focus for this position are Monitoring and Evaluation and Health Information Systems.
The position works closely with the PEPFAR interagency team, the MOH, as well as national and international partners to provided technical guidance and leadership on improvements to public health systems strengthening activities and strategic information efforts that support implementation of HIV/AIDS care, treatment, and prevention activities, including the development of guidelines, operational procedures and manuals, education materials, and teaching modules for implementing SI and M&E activities. The incumbent plays a leadership role as a technical expert and liaison between CDC Malawi and host country and multi-lateral counter parts in Malawi on activities to strengthen strategic information and public health systems. He/she is a member of the CDC Malawi senior management team and provides leadership and direction for strategic information and health systems strengthening activities in Malawi.
Under the guidance of the CDC Country Director, the SI Advisor provides technical leadership to HIV/AIDS activities and programs in Malawi. In particular, the incumbent plays a critical role in strengthening capacity and systems for Surveillance, Monitoring & Evaluation and Health Information Systems in Malawi. The senior specialist also works with USG partners at both implementer and national levels to quantify progress towards targets set for the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and other global health programs in Malawi. This position supervises two host country national M&E and Health Informatics Specialists.
