Special Educational Needs Project
Soft Power Education (SPE) is working with communities within the Jinja District to bring education and health care services to children and teenagers with a range of disabilities. The Special Educational Needs Project (SEN) aims to promote education, health care, a greater understanding and acceptance of disability through community sensitization, setting up and supporting residential school units and outreach clinics. The Project Manager will play a leading role in overseeing the effective development, implementation and evaluation of the special needs/disability outreach programme, school units and clinics, providing leadership and support to the SEN outreach team and government staff, as well as building and maintaining partnerships with communities, NGOs and other relevant stakeholders. We are looking to fill this position, based in Jinja District, with an organized, enthusiastic and highly motivated individual with a clear understanding of disability, education and health.
The applicant must have:
• University degree or equivalent in a relevant subject (e.g. education, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, social worker or higher level teaching assistant with SEN experience )
• Minimum 2 years experience in a relevant field (e.g. SEN education or SEN health)
• Minimum 1 year experience in training and/or project management preferably in an educational, health or NGO environment
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Proven experience in mobilising and working with rural communities in a developing country context
• Proven experience managing and working as part of an international team
• Excellent organizational skills and be comfortable managing multiple tasks, planning ahead and meeting deadlines
SPE are looking for someone ready and willing to start in Jan 2012. Minimum commitment of 12 months required. Previous experience working in Africa would be an advantage. Interviews will take place in December. For those outside Uganda Skype interviews will be an option.
