This senior technical position provides strategic guidance and technical assistance for Ipas’s policy and advocacy activities in the Africa region. This position is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to improve the enabling environment in support of women’s ability to exercise their sexual and reproductive rights, with a focus on abortion care. S/he facilitates and builds the capacity of regional networks to support Ipas mission. This position is located in Nairobi, Kenya. |
Responsibilities: |
POLICY AND ADVOCACY: Develops strategic vision and related activities for defined areas of the organization’s policy and advocacy work and communicating our results to donors and other stakeholders. Coordinates with Policy unit in North Carolina in planning and followup of regional events. Provides leadership in Africa Alliance policy and program planning and development of unit priorities and budgets.
NETWORK develoment and maintenance. Builds networks and partnerships with other organizations and institutions, including UN organizations, African Union, ACHPR and women’s associations of lawyers, doctors, journalists etc. to support Ipas mission and legal changes.
REPRESENTATION: Builds partnerships with government and other private sector organizations and advocates for policies and programs that maximize impact and resources to further women’s reproductive health and the mission of Ipas. Represents Ipas and advocates for women’s reproductive health and rights at national, regional and international conferences and events.
FUNDRAISING: Works with VP Africa, Alliance Program Director and NC Policy and Development units to write proposal and prepare reports for donors and other stakeholders. |
