Background:
UN Women Tanzania as part of Delivering as One is supporting the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, amongst others, to institutionalize gender equality and women’s rights in the work of Ministry of Industry Trade and Marketing; work in selected locations to support women traders engaged in cross border trade to form networks and raise awareness on their rights to protection, social services and business services in relation to regional integration and trade. UN Women in Tanzania is seeking to recruit a consultant to carry out an assessment of women traders engaged in cross border trade in order to support them to form networks to strengthen their business opportunities in the regional integration and trade. The consultant will work directly with the UN Women office in Tanzania.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Carry out an assessment of women traders engaged in cross border trade, develop a plan on how women in cross boarder business can form networks so as to benefit for the East African Regional Integration and trade, identify women traders along the East African boarders of Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi.
Identify networking opportunities for women in cross border trade, identify opportunities for women on cross border trade to benefit from the EAC customs union protocol, assess gender equality considerations in the East African Community Customs union Protocol and other relevant laws, regulations and procedures.
Qualifications and Experience:
Advanced University degree in Social sciences, Law, Economics or other relevant field, with a minimum of 5 years working experience. Previous experience of working on gender equality and women’s empowerment in relation to cross border trade.
Knowledge and understanding of women in cross border trade, Understanding of gender East African Union Customs Protocol. Proven track record in research in trade related issues, and in-depth knowledge of qualitative research methods.
Computer literate, fluent in English and Kiswahili.
