Description
Overview of the role: | Provide advice to the Plant Management Team on operational parameters and practices that have the potential to increase production and decrease unit costs for the gold plant. Monitor, review and assist with the goals setting and achieving of production target. |
Responsibilities: | · Responsibility for plant metallurgical optimisation. · Responsibility for the metallurgical metal balance and metallurgical accounting and reporting using the Barrick ORS and MOS systems, including to daily, weekly and monthly reporting, preparation of associated reports and presentations. · Serving as technical support for the operations personnel on the day to day work activities in the gold plant, i.e. reagents, grinding media, process parameters and set-points, with a view on enhancing operational performance. · Develop en execute routine and specialist test-work to determine optimal operating conditions. · Monitor Assay results and adjust plant parameters to achieve maximum gold recovery. · Liaise with procurement and warehousing departments to ensure 100% availability of all required chemicals and commodities. · Monitor plant budget and report on variances. · Coaching and mentoring of junior metallurgical personnel · Aligned to the process of skills transfer to the national staff. |
Qualifications: | A Tertiary Qualification or National Diploma in Extractive Metallurgy and/or Mineral Processing. |
Experience: | A minimum of 6-10 relevant industry experience, preferably within a gold plant and having knowledge of crushing / grinding / CIL / CIP unit processes. Experience working for a multinational mining company and previous expatriate experience will be an advantage. |
Personal characteristics: | · Be familiar with best practices in Workplace Health and Safety and Environmental procedures, legislation policies, and management systems. · Thorough understanding of metallurgical process improvement and control strategies for large-scale, continuous operating mineral processing plants. · Good analytical skills and ability to identify process shortfalls, bottlenecks and implementing metallurgical test work to address these. · Leadership skills, motivational skills, and ability to motivate and keep self-motivated, accountability for actions and urgency towards achieving production targets. · Ability to supervise technical studies, direct and train metallurgical engineers and technicians. · Ability to work in a team context and assist with creating sound and harmonious work conditions within the team. · Accustomed to carrying out advanced calculations and possess ability to analyze and understand statistical metallurgical data. · Computer literacy is a must. Knowledge of Pronto will be advantageous · Excellent verbal and written communication skills to facilitate accurate transfer of information to both senior and junior members of the organization, with clear and accurate plant performance reports written in English. · Ability to understand and integrate into a multinational organization and a foreign culture and country. · Familiarity with best practices in Workplace Health and Safety and Environmental procedures, legislation policies, and management systems. |
