Essential Requirements:
- A business related Bachelors degree from a recognized institution.
- CPA Part I
- A minimum of 2 years working experience in a similar position
- Computer literacy preferably knowledge in Accounting software.
Desirable Qualifications
- Work experience within a research setting.
- Familiarity with audit requirements of donor funded projects.
Skills and Abilities
- Good communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to multi-task
- Ability to work with a diverse group of people
- Excellency in reporting skills and ability to comprehend and analyze data
Job Summary: Reporting to the Head of Finance the job holder will be responsible for the overall accounting of third party projects.
He/She will compile various budgets for third party projects, monitor the expenses and ensure that they are in line with specific third party requirements.

- Compile and prepare third party project cost for activities scheduled and translate these to an operational budget
- Perform financial analysis of business costs, forecast future expected costs and ensure they are in line with the agreed operation plan.
- Ensure complete, accurate and up to date disclosure of expenses incurred by third party projects and distribution of the same to all the branches.
- Ensure that the financial requirements in the third party agreements with KEMRI are fully met on a timely basis.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliation and review daily cash reconciliation with regard to the third party projects.
- Facilitate efficient cash movements between the donors, KEMRI, the program’s main bank account and the Cash Office.
- Support third party projects in their daily finance matters.
- Participate in internal audits for third party projects as scheduled and provide auditors with accounting documents and explanations to audit queries as requested.
- Ensure that regular management information is generated on time, including comparison of results with agreed forecasts and cash flow reports.
- Participate in third party cross-functional project meetings on a regular basis.
Terms of Employment:
A six 1 year contract, renewable as per KEMRI scheme of service. Probation period for the first 3 months. Salary negotiable within the appropriate grade depending on education, experience and demonstrated competency.
