The Bank of Tanzania, an equal opportunity employer and Tanzania’s central bank, is looking for suitably qualified young Tanzanian citizens of high personal integrity to fill the following vacant positions at its new Mtwara Branch.

Position: Computer Analyst/Programmer - 1 Post

Reports to: Branch Director.
Contract type: Contract for unspecified period of time.

Location: Mtwara Branch, Mtwara.

Job Purpose:

To study existing systems and procedures and develop applications to automate various business operations and ensure smooth running of automated operations at the Branch.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

a) Analysing, designing, implementing, maintaining and documenting business applications;

b) Working with IT personnel and users to define system requirements and resolving problems;

c) Providing analysis related to software design and development and solving problems;

d) Evaluating the impact of hardware on software performance and recommending changes to system engineers;

e) Assessing business application performance and giving recommendations;

f) Troubleshooting reported system problems and implementing appropriate solutions;

g) Taking backups of business applications regularly;

h) Planning and organising analysis of computer system requirements and development of procedures for implementation, programming and/or maintenance of major computer systems;

i) Administering and conducting training for specialised business applications;

j) Assessing organisational IT related training needs and advising Management on relevant gaps;

k) Analysing the system incidental reports and change requests and implementing appropriate solutions;

l) Providing input in the review and formulation of ICT policy and its implementation;

m) Performing other relevant duties as assigned.

Education/Professional Qualifications Required:

a) Bachelor Degree in Computer Science from accredited academic institutions.

b) Master’s degree plus relevant certification in Information Technology will be an added advantage.

c) Knowledge and experience in Microsoft products like Active Directory, MS Exchange, Lync and System Centre Configuration will be an added advantage.

Position: Bank Officer III - 7 Posts
Reports to: Head of Division.

Contract type: Contract for unspecified period of time.
Location: Mtwara Branch, Mtwara.

Job Purpose:

To undertake banking and currency management responsibilities in accordance with the procedures

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

a) Handling requests for payments, remittances and transfers from customer and governments;

b) Examining and paying cheques in accordance to the set limits;

c) Sorting and ensuring microfilming of processed payment instruments including cheques, original credit slips and advice;

d) Performing retail banking activities including telling duties;

e) Preparing daily government and commercial banks position reports for decision making purposes;

f) Preparing and generating the Bank’s electronic files to and from clearing house;

g) Reconciling government, commercial banks and other in-house bank accounts;

h) Opening and closing Banks and Staff Accounts;

i) Attending customer inquiries and queries pertaining to banking operations and initiating responses as appropriate;

j) Originating payments as and when instructions are received from appropriate authorities;

k) Handling currency operations tasks such as ledgers, correspondence, documentation, reports and analysis;

l) Initiating acquisition and printing of banknotes and coins;

m) Facilitating distribution of currency to branches and safe custody centers;


n) Handling destruction of punched soiled notes and defaced coins;

o) Performing custodianship duties and the main vaults;

p) Preparing various currency stock reports and reconciliation statements of all cash accounts on monthly basis;

q) Performing other related duties as assigned.

Education/Professional Qualifications Required:

a) Bachelor’s Degree in Banking, Business Administration, Finance or its equivalent from accredited academic institutions. A master degree will be an added advantage.

b) Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Kiswahili.

c) High level of integrity, highly motivated and hardworking.

d) Strong interpersonal relations and ability to work effectively in teams.

e) Results-oriented.

Position: Public Relations and Protocol Officer III - 1 Post
Reports to: Head of Division.

Contract type: Contract for unspecified period of time.
Location: Mtwara Branch, Mtwara.

Job Purpose:

To plan, develop and implement public relations strategies in line the Bank’s corporate communication strategy.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

a) Providing inputs and support in the review and implementation of the corporate communication strategy;

b) Organising Bank’s engagement with the media;

c) Preparing responses to issues raised by the media/stakeholders and submitting to the Head of division;

d) Monitoring, reviewing, collecting and posting updated information to BOT websites and BOT pages in other websites;

e) Monitoring the public opinion of the Bank in the news media and recommending to Management appropriate action or reaction;

f) Preparing public education /awareness campaigns on Bank related issues;

g) Preparing inputs for the Bank’s internal monthly newsletter;

h) Preparing/translating Bank’s publications, leaflets, brochures, etc. when need arises;

i) Arranging for and processing travel, passports, visa, travel insurance, hotel accommodation, registration, travel allowances, transport to the executives and visitors to the Bank etc;

j) Providing escort and meeting Bank’s executives and official visitors to the Bank to and from travel ports;

k) Assisting in providing relevant information to official visitors of the Bank;

l) Assisting and participating in the organisation and preparation of various functions hosted by the Bank;

m) Providing logistical support during conferences, seminars, workshops, meetings and events organised by the Bank;

n) Performing other related duties as assigned.

Education/Professional Qualifications Required:

a) Bachelor degree in Economics or other Social Sciences or its equivalent from accredited academic institutions.

b) A Master’s degree in relevant field and training in public relations will be an added advantage.

c) Excellent communication, interpersonal and writing skills;

d) Drive, competence, flexibility and a willingness to learn;

e) Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask;

f) Creativity, imagination and initiative;

g) Good teamwork, analytical and problem-solving skills;

h) Business awareness and a good knowledge of current affairs.

k) High degree of creativity.

Position: Procurement Officer III – 2 Posts

Reports to: Branch Director.
Terms of Contract: Contract for Unspecified Period of Time.

Location: Mtwara Branch, Mtwara.

Job Purpose:

To perform the Branch’s procurement functions in line with the procurement law and regulations

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

a) Assisting the Head of Branch with day-to-day procurement activities;

b) Carrying out secretarial duties in respect of meetings of the Delegated Tender Board;

c) Assisting Branch Director in preparing the Bank’s annual procurement plan;

d) Assisting user departments to establish detailed technical specifications, terms of reference and statement of requirements for procurement purposes;

e) Preparing bidding documents to prospective bidders;

f) Preparing and reviewing procurement contracts as well as maintaining register for contracts;

g) Conducting analysis of quotations basing on criteria set forth in the Request for Quotations;

h) Preparing and issuing purchase orders and maintaining a register for purchase orders;

i) Following up on delivery of approved items from various suppliers;

j) Preparing periodic reports on procurement;

k) Performing other related duties as assigned.

Education/Professional Qualifications Required:

a) Bachelor’s Degree in Procurement and Supplies or its equivalent from accredited institution;

b) Professional Certification in Procurement and Supplies Management (CPSP);

c) Master’s degree will be an added advantage;

d) Computer literacy;

e) Good team player;

f) Ability to work under minimum supervision;

g) Ability to work under pressure;

h) Customer service skills;

i) Excellent writing and oral communication skills.

Position: Artisan (Plumber) III - 1 Post

Reports to: Head of Division.

Contract type: Contract for unspecified period of time.
Location: Mtwara Branch, Mtwara.

Job Purpose:

To install, repair and maintain pipes, fixtures and other plumbing used for water distribution and waste water disposal in Branch’s offices and residential premises.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

a) Carrying out water supply installations at the Branch’s office and residential premises;

b) Carrying out routine checks on all water supply installations, machinery and equipment;

c) Performing maintenance services on plumbing systems and fixtures at the Branch’s residential and office premises;

d) Ensuring that all installations, repairs and maintenance meet relevant health and safety requirements;

e) Performing other related duties as assigned.

Education/Professional Qualifications and Experience Required:

a) Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE);

b) Trade Test Certificate in Plumbing from an accredited institutions;
c) Two (2) years of relevant working experience.

Position: Office Attendant (Kitchen) III - 2 Posts

Reports to: Head of Division.

Contract type: Contract for unspecified period of time.
Location: Mtwara Branch, Mtwara.

Job Purpose:
To prepare beverages for staff members and visitors

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

a) Preparing and serving refreshments to members of staff and visitors;

b) Cleaning and safekeeping of kitchen facilities;

c) Initiating requisitions for kitchen facilities and other requirements;

d) Performing other related duties as assigned.

Education/Professional Qualifications Required:

a) Certificate of Secondary School Education with passes in English and Kiswahili

b) A basic certificate in catering;
c) A good team player;
d) Customer service skills.

Position: Mechanical Technician III: –1 Post

Reports to: Head of Division.
Terms of Contract: Contract for Unspecified Period of Time.

Location: Mtwara Branch, Mtwara.

Job Purpose:

To maintain and ensure safety of mechanical systems and equipment at all time.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

a) Making Periodical inspections on installations at the Branch’s premises to identify areas that need attention;

b) Carrying out maintenance and repair services of the Branch buildings, machinery and equipment;

c) Preparing requisitions for spare parts and consumable components to ensure that repairs are undertaken as per specifications;

d) Performing annual preventive maintenance schedules for all high security locking systems;

e) Ensuring safety standards are maintained at the Branch;

f) Performing other related duties as assigned.

Education/Professional Qualifications and Experience Required:

a) Diploma or Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited College/University.

b) A good team player.

c) Excellent written and oral communication skills.
d) Two (2) years’ relevant work experience.

Position: IT Technician III - 1 Post
Reports to: Branch Director.

Contract type: Contract for unspecified period of time.
Location: Mtwara Branch, Mtwara.

Job Purpose:

To install, configure and maintain computers and peripherals in good working condition as well as to support users of IT systems at the Branch.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

a) Installing, assembling and configuring computers, monitors, Laptops, Mobile devises and peripherals such sprinters, scanners a n d related hardware;

b) Troubleshooting and repairing computer systems hardware and software as well as other computer peripherals and ICT equipment;

c) Troubleshooting and maintaining network infrastructure;

d) Performing preventive maintenance of ICT equipment;

e) Providing support on applications such as MS Office, MS Visio, MS Project, MS Exchange Outlook, MS SCCM and Lync, Desktop Clients and Agents and Operating system issues to users;

f) Providing support on antivirus and other anti-malware applications on desktops, laptops and mobile devices ;

g) Performing other related duties as assigned.

Education/Professional Qualifications and Experience Required:

a) Diploma in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Engineering or related fields;

b) PC Technician certification will be an added advantage;
c) At least two (2) years of relevant working experience.

Position: Estate Officer III: –1 Post
Reports to: Head of Division.

Terms of Contract: Contract for Unspecified Period of Time.
Location: Mtwara Branch.

Job Purpose:

To carry out the Branch’s estate management and administration activities

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

a) Planning curative and preventive maintenance works for the estates, machinery and equipment in accordance with laid down routine schedule;

b) Preparing specifications and bill of quantities for tenders of capital works, repair and maintenance works;

c) Conducting periodic inspection on buildings, machinery and equipment;

d) Updating estate register and housing inventory;

e) Drafting and reviewing lease agreements;

f) Compiling requests for residential houses by staff;

g) Providing secretarial services to the Branch House Committee.

h) Undertaking valuation of the Branch’s estates for defined purpose and arranging for their insurance;

i) Liaising with relevant authorities for property and asset registration;

j) Maintaining fixed asset register for the Branch’s estate properties;

k) Administering movement of furniture, equipment and machinery within and outside the Bank’s premises;

l) Facilitating acquisition of plots and title deeds for the Bank’s properties;

m) Preparing period schedules for and supervising fumigation of Bank’s premises;

n) Carrying out analysis on information arising from preventive maintenance schedule and providing statistical reports on performance and maintenance works;

o) Supervising site works and preparing progress reports;

p) Initiating payment to service contractors, service providers and suppliers;

q) Performing other relevant duties as assigned.

Education/Professional Qualifications Required:

a) Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Estate Management, Building Economics or its equivalent from accredited academic institutions;

b) Proven analytical skills;
c) A good team player;

d) Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Position: Personal Secretary III - 4 Posts

Reports to: Head of Division

Contract type: Contract for unspecified period of time

Location: Mtwara Branch, Mtwara.

Job Purpose:

To provide secretarial services to Head of Department and administer departmental office support functions.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

a) Providing administrative and office support to the Head of department including handling appointments and travel arrangements;

b) Managing phone calls, fax and emails directed to the Head of Department;

c) Attending to visitors/customers of the Head of department;

d) Typing letters, memos, reports and other documents as required;

e) Handling files, documents (routine and confidential) including non routine information appropriately;

f) Distributing files and documents to relevant officers and parties within the department and outside as instructed;

g) Assisting with organizing meetings and planning official events;

h) Operating and assisting office staff in operating photocopier, scanner and other equipment;

i) Making requisitions and maintaining inventory of office supplies and office equipment machinery;

j) Performing other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor.


Education/Professional Qualifications Required:

a) Diploma in Secretarial studies from an accredited training institution;

b) Certificate of secondary education examination with passes in English and Kiswahili.

c) Must have shorthand/hatimkato speed of 100 w.p.m. as well as typing speed 50 w.p.m.;

d) Good team player;

e) Strong organization skills;

f) Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.;

g) Strong interpersonal and communication skills;

Good customer service skills.
