The best world city; a massive challenge – keeping London moving
COMMISSIONER OF TRANSPORT FOR LONDON
London SW1
London SW1
A daily operation moving 30 million passenger journeys, planning for the future needs of a world city, a £35bn investment in London’s transport networks, reducing Government grant, a £16bn efficiencies programme – just some of the challenges TfL face. Our purpose is to keep London working, growing and making the city a better place to live. You’ll make sure we do just that for the customers and users at the heart of our business.
As Commissioner, you’ll lead TfL in the delivery of a budget and business plan which sustains the capital’s economic growth into the next decade. You’ll work closely with the Mayor, Government, the Police, Boroughs, business, customer and user groups and many other stakeholders to provide safe, reliable and integrated transport for Greater London.
You’ll make sure we spend wisely all our £10.4bn annual income, both on the services we provide, contract and regulate, and on our large capital and investment programme, so as to deliver the Mayor’s Transport Strategy and the Mayor’s manifesto commitments.
To succeed, you’ll need a track record of the successful leadership and strategic management of a large and complex organisation with many thousands of employees, with directly provided services and others provided by contractors and through regulation. You should also have managed a £multi-billion budget and delivering large and complex transport operations in a major city, ideally both in the public and private sectors. A clear understanding of the structures of local and national government is necessary, as is a high degree of political sensitivity and the stakeholder management skills to deal with many competing issues.
