Position Summary:
Develop and implement systems and guidelines that promote good working relations and service delivery to clients in line with Baylor Tanzania’s Care and Treatment Policy on adolescent psychosocial related activities
Duties and Responsibilities
Promote an adolescent friendly working environment in which clients are supported to help reach their full potential and successfully transition into adults living positively
Coordinate monthly adolescent psychosocial support group activities working with Baylor staff, teen leaders, teens, and community members as appropriate
Develop administrative systems and operating guidelines for the Psychosocial Unit in line with Baylor Tanzania’s Care and Treatment Policy
Develop strategies for expanding and maintaining an active referral network with other child focused agencies to address the varied needs of children, care givers, adolescents affected or infected with HIV and their families in line with the Referral guidelines
Provide psychosocial training, guidance and support to community volunteers and health care providers involved in care and support of HIV infected children and adolescents nationwide in line with the existing training guidelines and care and treatment guidelines
Develop strategies to expand adolescent psychosocial support groups/ activities at the COE and in the regions throughout the Lake Zone
Provide technical guidance to project/programme proposal writing, planning and implementation of successfully approved and funded proposals as per Baylor Tanzania’s Project guidelines
Advocate for the rights and improved care of HIV positive children, adolescents and their families
Develop/ adopt curriculum for training health care workers on psychosocial support for adolescents living with HIV
Mentor and monitor the performance of the psychosocial support groups established by Baylor Tanzania
Standardize and disseminate health education and behavior change messages/ information to the clients and the general public in line with the public education health guidelines
Qualifications / Skills
Degree in Social Work or Community Development from a recognized institution preferred
A minimum of 2 years work experience in a clinical setting
Additional training in adolescent and/ or HIV related issues is an added advantage
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
Knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices and their application to complex casework, group work and community problems
Knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to patients’ rights
Knowledge of a wide range of behavior and psychosocial problems among adolescents
Knowledge of family and group dynamics and a range of intervention techniques
Knowledge and experience in working with Government and private organizations, community resources, laws, regulations and policies which govern the program, methods and principles of casework supervision and training
Skill in establishing rapport with a client and in applying techniques or assessing psychosocial, behavioral and psychological aspects of client problems
Excellent communication skills both oral and written
Ability to supervise and train others
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and networks with members of other support organizations
Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively
