Purpose of the Job:-
To provide technical research support to the entire AMREF Kenya Country Programme
Key Responsibilities:-
- Support programme and project teams to design and implement research.
- Coordinate the research cycle, including but not limited to, concept and protocol development, data collection, data analysis and report writing.
- Provide the Secretariat for the AMREF Ethics and Scientific Review Committee (ESRC) and act as its Secretary.
- Organize and provide the Secretariat for the AMREF Annual Technical Meeting (ATM).
- Provide writing and editorial assistance in the preparation of grants, protocols, research reports and manuscripts.
- Contribute to the production of publications and research-related presentations.
- Scan the environment and compile updates on upcoming local and international health conferences.
- Coordinate collaborative research activities with consultants engaged by AMREF, academic/research institutions and strategic partners.
- Maintain repository and inventories of AMREF Kenya research products.
- Manage organizational resources including finances and assets.
Qualifications and Competencies:-
The ideal candidate should have a Bachelors degree in Statistics, Public Health, Social Sciences or its equivalent. A post-graduate degree is desirable. S/he should have a minimum of four (4) years’ working experience in managing research. Experience in the NGO sector is an added advantage. Skills in study design, research methodology, data analysis, report writing, dissemination for various audiences including policy makers and peer review processes are necessary. Strong quantitative and qualitative skills, hands-on experience in the use of statistical analysis packages such as STATA, SPSS and Epi info. S/he should demonstrate ability to handle multiple tasks and produce reports in time and work both independently with multi-disciplinary and multicultural team environments. S/he must possess good communication, planning and organizational skills.
