The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences wishes to appoint a postdoctoral fellow in disaster epidiomology for 22 months from September 1st, 2013, or as soon as possible thereafter.
The position is part of the interdisciplinary research programme “Changing Disasters”, funded by the UCPH Excellence Programme for Interdisciplinary Research. “Changing disasters” is a research project under the auspices of COPE Copenhagen Center of Disaster Research www.cope.ku.dk
Background
"Changing Disasters" is an interdisciplinary research programme setting out to explore the relationship between disasters and societies. The aim of “Changing Disasters” is to investigate how the perpetual presence of real or virtual disasters gives shape to contemporary societies. As hybrid phenomena, disasters cannot be explored without 360 degrees knowledge of the various dimensions of human life. The research programme is therefore coordinated by researchers from all six faculties of the University of Copenhagen covering theology, law, cultural studies, anthropology, health and economics.
The research programme is organized in three clusters focusing on Imaginations, Interventions and Transformations. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to undertake a major responsibility in organising the research cluster in Intervention.

Project description
The research proposal should fall within the following project description: In a climate changed future the world will experience a more intensified frequency of disasters; droughts, floods etc. This project should explore how these climatic changes in the future will influence vulnerability and the geographical, demographical etc. distribution of different communicable disease (from old diseases like Cholera to re-emerging diseases like bird flu) and hereby to understand and present strategies to influence the risk and perceptions of our societies and daily lives.
Data will be extracted from available data sources, and from ongoing field work in Bangladesh.
Applicants should in their application account for their research ideas (state of the art background, theory, research methods etc.) in a 3-5 pages project proposal. Please note that opportunities for field based data collection are limited.
Job description
The primary obligation of the Post doc fellow will be to generate international peer reviewed publications/scientific communication and to a minor extent to conduct research-based teaching and examination. To a limited extent the position may also include other duties such as; research management, educational guidance, professional assessment and research proposal writing.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must hold a PhD or equivalent in a relevant science field. Relevant inter-disciplinary experience and field experience is considered a qualification, and interest in interdisciplinary work a requirement.

Terms of employment
