Kenya Airways General Manager - Cargo Operations Job
Role purpose statement
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the job holder will be accountable to senior management for ensuring safe, secure, efficient and economic cargo handling of Kenya Airways and customer airline flights in accordance with regulatory requirements, company policies and relevant authorities. To be responsible and have authority for the management and supervision of functions and activities within the scope of Cargo Operations to contribute to the development of the overall Kenya Airways product by the establishment of policies, procedures and an ethical guide for use at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) operations and across the network.
Key accountabilities & responsibilities
- Ensure that a Risk Management process is applied throughout the Kenya Airways cargo operations at JKIA Nairobi Hub. Any process change or initiative that could have impact on safety or security should equally be Risk assessed.
- To contribute to the definition and development of the KQ product portfolio, particularly GH & cargo.
- To ensure cost effective delivery of services to agreed scope and service standards, and the development of relevant reporting.
- To provide for an efficient and effective organizational structure to deliver agreed scope and standard of service.
- To ensure optimization of manpower, staff levels/shift patterns.
- To ensure suitably trained/qualified personnel are recruited/retained/developed.
- To ensure safety & security of cargo operations is in compliance with relevant legislative/industry requirements
- To ensure a healthy working environment in accordance with relevant industry and legislative requirements for personnel working in cargo operations.
- Routine monitoring of safety and quality critical activities within cargo operations.
- To ensure conformity with all regulatory requirements, organization standards and local procedures.
- To liaise with relevant authorities and ensure conformity with all regulatory requirements, organization standards and local procedures.
- Liaise with the relevant authorities, customer airlines and other operationally relevant external parties.
- Ensuring that all non-compliance reported from an evaluation process are closed within the time frame provided, action which should include identifying the root causes and the area of failure.
- Promotion of positive safety culture
- Review and adopt reasonable measures to minimize risks and hazards
- Plan and ensure all staff have the necessary requisite trainings
- Perform risk assessment and maintain a register
- Responsible for safety and quality control in cargo
The successful candidate will receive an attractive remuneration package and will be engaged on a 3 year performance-based contract.

- Masters Degree or relevant professional qualification.
- Customer service experience logistics/distribution industry.
- Financial awareness.

- Experienced delivering service in demanding distribution/logistics environment.
