Launched in 2008, the Business Call to Action (BCtA) is a global membership platform that encourages private sector companies to develop innovative business models that combine profitability with development impact, in support of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs); especially in the health, agriculture, energy and IT sectors.
BCtA members are leading innovators committed to developing commercially-viable business initiatives that engage people living at the Base of the Pyramid (BoP) as consumers, employees, producers, suppliers, and distributors of goods and services. In more than 20 countries, business leaders are spearheading efforts to provide the poor with the tools and resources they need to succeed by promoting inclusive economic opportunity.
BCtA provides a leadership platform for companies to demonstrate their commitment to development, while sharing as well as accessing global expertise on innovation at the BoP. Members benefit from:

BCtA is supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), which hosts the BCtA Secretariat, the UK Department for International Development (DFID), the US Agency for International Development (USAID) the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID), the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI), and the International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF).

Duties and Responsibilities
|
Scope of Work:
BCtA has ambitious targets to expand the number of member companies from 65 to 150 by the end of 2015. The BCtA Health Sector Outreach Consultant will support the BCtA Secretariat to recruit new members: Within the context of a particular sector(s), and under the supervision of the Programme Manager of the Business Call to Action , the consultant will perform the following services:
- Contribute to development of BCtA’s member outreach strategy in the health sector by identifying and recruiting companies engaged in an inclusive business initiative.
- Undertake market research to create a targeted pipeline of potential member companies.
- Conduct company outreach by phone, email and in person to raise awareness of BCtA’s value proposition for the purpose of recruiting member companies.
- Support targeted companies in the BCtA application process by identifying eligible initiatives, assisting with preparing written applications, and managing the application review process.
- Contribute to the development of relevant knowledge and promotional materials that will enhance BCtA’s value proposition for companies as thought leaders in their sector.
- Work with the BCtA Secretariat on designing programs and products that are tailored to the needs of businesses and thus increase valuable engagement with existing and prospective member companies
- Manage BCtA operational activities as relevant, including support for the preparation of relevant BCtA events or knowledge products.
- Represent BCtA at relevant meetings and events, when necessary.
- Assist with recruit of BCtA companies in other sectors
- Support the BCtA Secretariat in developing a mid to long term strategy that solidifies BCtA's unique value and position in the Inclusive Business Health Sector
Outputs:
- Prepare a marketing/outreach plan that identifies the priority Health sub-sectors and targets companies operating to be submitted by the end of the first month of the contract period.
- Identify at least 50 new companies for the BCtA pipeline in order of relevance for BCtA and undertake initial outreach efforts, keeping adequate records of all conversations in the Salesforce database and submitting an updated pipeline list on a monthly basis. With expected at least 4 companies identified per month
- Support at least 12 companies in becoming BCtA members during the period of the consultancy
- Organize BCtA presence in at least two strategic events (eg, through speaking slots, business panel, etc.), and maintain an up-to-date calendar of strategic events in health.
- Identify events and inform the BCtA Secretariat of opportunities for existing BCtA member companies to engage with thought leaders and inclusive business or BoP experts in their sector.
- Prepare a final report outlining progress to date, lessons learned and recommendations for future engagement in the thematic focus area.
The Consultant shall report to the Programme Manager of the BCTA Secretariat in New York, and work in close coordination with the BCTA Secretariat. As this position is home based, two trips to New York are expected during the duration of the contract The consultant shall provide monthly written reports on progress made in terms of the above deliverables.
Payments for work completed shall be made based on deliverables achieved ( in terms of pipeline of new companies identified and member companies recruited with a successful application in a particular sector) and deemed satisfactory by the BCtA Secretariat. There is a possibility of contract extension based on need and satisfactory completion of the above deliverables within the initial 12 month period.

Required Skills and Experience
|
Education:
- Master's degree in Business Administration, International Relations or Economic Development
Experience:
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience, including at least 3 years working in or with the private sector on issues related to inclusive business and economic development. Prefer someone who has worked within a private sector healthcare company (ex. BCtA target member company).
- Demonstrated knowledge of issues and networks related to the role of the private sector in Health
- Experience in producing high-quality written publications and correspondence, as well as managing information and databases
Language:
- Fluency in written and spoken English (Desirable: proficiency in at least one additional UN language or one of the languages spoken in Asia)
DOCUMENTS TO BE INCLUDED WHEN SUBMITTING THE PROPOSALS (only 1 file can be uploaded please include all docs in one/1 file): Interested individual consultants must submit the following documents/information to demonstrate their qualifications:
- Proposal explaining why they are the most suitable for the work
- P11 or Personal CV and at least 3 references.
- Financial proposal specifying a lumpsum for the 12 month period with monthly payments based on pipeline of companies and delivery of activities , which should include all related expenses including related benefits and insurance. All envisaged travel costs must be included in the financial proposal.
In the case of unforeseen travel, payment of travel costs including tickets, lodging and terminal expenses should be agreed upon, between the respective business unit and Individual Consultant, prior to travel and will be reimbursed. Evaluation: Individual consultants will be evaluated using the Cumulative Analysis methodology. When using this weighted scoring method, the award of the contract should be made to the individual consultant whose offer has been evaluated and determined as:
- Responsive/compliant/acceptable, and having received the highest score out of a pre-determined set of weighted technical and financial criteria specific to the solicitation.
- Technical Criteria weight: 70%
- Financial Criteria weight: 30%
Technical Criteria:
- Knowledge of and experience with companies with a network of company contacts with inclusive business models initiatives in health , 40%
- Effectiveness in establishing working relationships with senior level company executives as well as professionals working in the area of business and development to ensure BCtA member company recruitment, 30%
- Understanding, familiarity and experience with inclusive business models as well as the ecosystem of intermediaries and actors supporting inclusive business in health s (i.e. supply chain, last mile delivery), 30%
Only candidates obtaining a minimum of 70 percent of technical would be considered for the Financial Evaluation Financial: 30 points This contract does not carry any expectation of any future engagement in UNDP.
