POLICY OFFICER (RENEWABLE ENERGY)
The African Union, established as a unique Pan African continental body, is charged with spearheading Africa’s rapid integration and sustainable development by promoting unity, solidarity, cohesion and cooperation among the peoples of Africa and African States as well as developing a New Partnership Worldwide. Its Headquarters is located at Addis Ababa, capital city of Ethiopia.
In seeking to achieve this objective, the African Union intends to strengthen its capacity to deliver by, amongst others, the implementation of a new organizational structure and the filling of all vacant posts.
The Commission of the African Union invites applicants who are citizens of Member States for the post of Policy Officer (Renewable Energy), in the Department of Infrastructure and Energy.

2. Major Duties and Responsibilities
a) Participating in the formulation of policies, master plan, plans of action, programmes and project proposals relating to the renewable energy sub-sector;
b) Facilitating the implementation and conducting the monitoring, supervision and evaluation of renewable energy projects and programmes;
c) Preparing and coordinating studies and research in the area of renewable energy;
d) Organising and servicing workshops, seminars and meetings on renewable energy matters;
e) Contributing to the work of the specialised technical committee(s) and sub-committees on renewable energy issues;
f) Collecting data and specific information related to renewable energy sub-sector
g) Ensuring overall management of the renewable energy sub-sector including preparation of its budget and supervising short-term experts in conformity with relevant rules and procedures in force;
h) Producing and submitting periodic reports on activities and specific missions; and
i) Monitoring the continental project in renewable energy
j) To perform any other duty as may be assigned.
3. Education Qualification and Experience Required
Candidates must have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electromechanical, Mechanical, Physics, chemistry, etc) or equivalent qualification related to renewable energy field. Knowledge of environmental issues linked to energy would be advantage.
4. Work Experience Required
Candidates must have at least five (5) years experience on different types of renewable energy technologies, preparation of renewable energy policies master plan and plan of actions, organizing and servicing renewable energy events and producing monitoring renewable energy projects
5. Other Relevant Skills:
• Working knowledge of policy analysis and development and programme/project management, implementation and monitoring;
• Management experience, excellent interpersonal skills, ability to organize and motivate others, and to work in a multi-cultural environments;
• Excellent drafting and reporting skills;
• Good communication and negotiating skills;
• Good planning and organizational skills.
6. Language Requirement: Proficiency in one of the African Union working languages. Knowledge of one or several other working languages would be an advantage.
7. Age Requirement: candidates must preferably be between 25 and 35 years old.
8. Tenure of Appointment: The appointment will be made on fixed term contract for a period of three (3) years, of which the first twelve months be consider as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract will be for a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory performance.

10. Remuneration: Indicative basic salary of US $29287.00 per annum plus other related entitlements e.g. Post adjustment (46% of basic salary), Housing allowance ($16,819.20 perannum), education allowance (75% of tuition and other education related expenses for every eligible dependent up to a maximum of US$7,800.00 per child per annum), etc for internationally recruited staff of the Commission.
