Pan - Africa - Business Development Manager
Job Description
Reporting to the Group CEO, the Business Development Manager role has the following responsibilities:
- Leads and oversees Regional sales and marketing functions, with a view to improving market penetration in existing and new regions In Africa.
- Formulates and implements sales, PR and marketing plans and strategies to develop market share, grow sales revenue and defend margins
- Establishes and maintains excellent customer service by building a robust customer care management program
- Steers market research and intelligence, and conceptualizes new products for the market
- Develops the export market with particular focus in EAC, COMESA and SADC markets
- Develops Agency Agreements with Global suppliers, ensures smooth implementation of such strategic partnerships, and drives sales & distribution of partner products
- Prepares sales budgets, recommends commission structures and sets overall revenue and cost KPIs for the Commercial Organisation for Board Approval
- Prepares marketing and communication budgets
- Ensures all sales, marketing and communications budgets are cascaded across the commercial organisation and assesses performance of staff to ensure that targets are achieved and budgets strictly adhered to
- Drives recruiting of high caliber of regional based sales and marketing staff and ensures consequence management for consistent underperformers
- Ensures high level company visibility of the Group’s Electrical business in the Region
Desired Skills & Experience
The successful candidate must have:
- A university graduate with strong first degree or experience in electrical engineering. A master’s degree in Business administration (an added advantage)
- Ten years relevant working experience in sales & marketing management three of which should be at senior level preferably in a similar field, preferably with a Multinational Organisation working across numerous countries
- Good marketing, selling and public relations skills
- Strong management and negotiation skills
- Strong analytical and problem solving ability
- Ability to develop, formulate strategy and exercise good judgment

Our Client is a Group that is involved in the manufacturing electrical cables, transformers and switchgear with 10 manufacturing facilities across the African Region. In addition to its strong manufacturing base, the organisation has various agency agreements with Global manufacturers to trade their products across the Region. Product areas of interest to the client include electrical cables, transformers, switchgear, generators, bearings, weighbridges and highly specified precision components and sub-assemblies.
