University of Cape Town -Faculty of Humanities
We seek a candidate for the position of Dean of the Faculty of Humanities for appointment from 1 January 2014, or as soon as possible thereafter. The appointment is normally for five years, subject to renewal.
The Faculty of Humanities includes core humanities subjects such as Languages and Philosophy, Social Sciences, e.g. Anthropology and History, professional disciplines such as Social Work, Psychology and Education alongside long-established programmes in the performing and creative arts and a number of vibrant institutes and centres of study (see www.humanities.uct.ac.za/about/welcome/).
We seek a Dean with a scholarly record appropriate to the professorial level, and with the necessary experience and ability to guide and manage a diverse faculty.
The Dean will be expected to lead transformation in the Faculty, and in the University generally, by implementing measures to improve, inter alia, the race and gender representivity of students and staff in the Faculty and to enhance diversity in the institution.
The Dean will also lead processes that engage the University and its academic programmes with centres and debates elsewhere on the continent.
As part of the senior management group of the University, he or she will contribute to the strategic and operational leadership of the University as a whole.
