Regional Behavior Change Communications Advisor Danya International - Kenya

Under supervision of the Vice President, Africa Programs, the Regional Behavior Change Communications Advisor will provide technical leadership and implementation oversight for Danya’s evidenced-based, public health, and food security BCC initiatives in East Africa. This position will be responsible for providing technical assistance to U.S. Government (USG) agencies, USG partners, and the Government of Kenya, in designing and leading high-impact communications strategies and implementations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership

• Provide strategic leadership and vision for the organization’s BCC programs

• Lead BCC technical approaches across multiple projects
• Represent Danya before the stakeholders and oversee the implementation of activities throughout East Africa
• Contribute to annual work planning
• Establish and maintain productive relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, nongovernmental organizations, and community groups for smooth implementation
• Work collaboratively with other project team members to ensure necessary program planning, development, resource availability, and management activities function smoothly and efficiently

Management

• Supervise and manage Danya’s BCC project staff in East Africa
• Work collaboratively with project and headquarters staff to ensure proper financial projections, reporting, spending, and compliance with project terms and conditions
• Contribute to ensure all projects meet the set targets
• Promote and support the dissemination of best practices among the project teams
• Contribute to the timely, accurate, and appropriate reporting of program activities and results to the donor, including progress reports and annual reports

Desired Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of experience or a compatible combination of education and experience.
• Relevant degree with postgraduate-level training in public health, agriculture, or communications preferred
• A minimum of 6+ years of senior-level experience in designing and implementing BCC strategies
• Demonstrated experience providing technical assistance to development projects of over $1 million US per year in developing countries, with emphasis on USG-funded food security programs in East Africa
• Excellent interpersonal, writing, and oral presentation skills
• Strong change management, results-oriented, and decision-making skills
• Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines, and intense pressure to perform
• Experience and understanding of Feed the Future programming

Unique Requirements

• Fluency in English
• Ability to travel nationally, regionally, and internationally

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience developing successful, replicable, and sustainable projects
• Expertise in research to practice – identifying best practices and adapting them to program realities
• Solid publications record in the BCC area
• A team player accustomed to building team capacity, delegating working teams, and developing communities of learning among host country partners and counterparts
