Carnegie Mellon in Rwanda (CMU-R) is seeking highly efficient candidates for the position of IT System Administrator. This role includes overseeing multi-user server systems and supporting IT for CMU-R faculty, staff and students. Responsibilities include:
1) Installing, maintaining, configuring, and upgrading servers; writing/using scripts and software support tools to ensure optimal performance and security.
2) providing support for the client environment (e.g., setting up and assisting students/faculty/staff with laptops, tablets, smartphones, etc.); resolving tier 3 issues as appropriate; performing or assisting in troubleshooting and diagnosing IT problems; correcting identified problems; documenting issues and resolutions; providing support as needed.
3) keeping current with new technologies; and performing related duties as assigned.
Candidates should possess a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field andtwo or more years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of training and experience. Certification for particular server(s) related to area of support (e.g. MCSA – Microsoft Certified System Administrator; CCNA - Cisco Certified Network Associate, UNIX etc.) or demonstrated experience in lieu of certifications(s). Knowledge and experience with multiple operating systems (Windows, Linux, Mac OS X). Demonstrated knowledge of operating system commands/utilities; demonstrated knowledge of system administration tools and processes; ability to write scripts in administrative languages (e.g. Tk, Perl, VBScript, C, shell scripting).
Language proficiency in English is compulsory, Kinyarwanda a plus.
