The African Union, established as a unique Pan African continental body, is charged with spearheading Africa’s rapid integration and sustainable development by promoting unity, solidarity, cohesion and cooperation among the peoples of Africa and African States as well as developing a New Partnership worldwide. Its Headquarters is located at Addis Ababa, capital city of Ethiopia.
In seeking to achieve these objectives, the African Union intends to strengthen its human resourced by filling in all its vacant posts.
Thus the Commission of the African Union invites applicants who are citizens of Member States for the post of HEAD OF DIVISION, CLINICAL SERVICES:

2. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of The Director of Medical Services, the Head of Clinical Services at the AU Medical Services will be responsible for the day to day clinical duties as follows:
i. Daily medical consultations, diagnosis and treatment to AUC Staff, Member Statesand their families.
ii. Refer staff members and their dependents to appropriate medical specialists (Locally and abroad) and for follow up.
iii. Analyze and determine the necessity for medical evacuations, report writing and case presentation to the Medical Board. Manage evacuation processes and monitor progress of the evacuees.
iv. Arrange purchase of emergency medications, other medical supplies and accessories for maintenance of the Clinical Division.
v. Serve as liaison between external health service providers, staff and the management of Medical Services Directorate.
vi. Prepare recommendations to Management on how to maintain healthy working environment at the AUC and Regional Offices.
vii. Direct supervision of the conduct of work of all Medical and Nursing staff on 24 hrs. basis.
viii. To implement health related outreach activities to the AU Regional Offices;
ix. To implement medical support to field missions (Planning, budgeting and recruitment).
x. To organize the implementation of training programs and workshops for continuous medical education at the Medical Services Directorate;
xi. To act as Focal Point for consultancies aimed at increasing and improving the clinical performance of the AU Medical Service Staff;
xii. Provide travel medical advice to the AUC Staff and Member States Staff.
xiii. To produce and submit periodic reports on activities and specific missions;
xiv. To represent the Director of Medical Services on all medical board meetings.
xv. To perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Director of Medical Services.
3. Qualifications and Experience Required:
• Must have MD or MBBS University degree;
• Must specialize in one of the clinical fields;
• University Master Degree in Public health will be an added advantage;
• Relevant work experience within a government hospital, private practice, university medical services or international organization as unit, team, section, or department head;
4. Professional experience required:
At least 10 years of service as a registered physician of which 3 years should be at managerial level;
5. Other Relevant Skills:
• Must be computer literate;
• Involvement as team leader in the organization of continuous medical education will be an asset;
• Working knowledge of policy analysis and development and program/project management, implementation and monitoring;
• Management experience, excellent interpersonal skills, ability to organize and motivate others, and to work in a multi-cultural environment;
• Excellent drafting and reporting skills;
• Good communication and negotiation skills;
• Good planning and organizational skills.
7. Language Requirement:
Proficiency in one of the African Union working language. Knowledge of other working languages would be an added advantage.
7. Age Requirement:
Candidates should preferably be between 35 and 50 years old.
8. Tenure of Appointment:
The appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for a period of thee (3) years, of which the first twelve months will be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract shall be a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory performance and Deliverables.

10.RENUMERATION:
Indicative basic salary of US$45,551.00 per annum plus other related entitlements e.g. Post adjustment (46% of basic salary), Housing allowance ($16,819.20 perannum), education allowance (75% of tuition and other education related expensesfor every eligible dependent up to a maximum of US$7,800.00 per child per annum),etc for internationally recruited staff of the Commission.
