Volunteer with VSO as an IT Project Manager in Zambia for 12 months starting as soon as possible.
VSO is working Plan Zambia who intends to improve the way it collects and transmits information on the 25,919 Sponsored Children (SC) it works with in rural Zambia, as a means of sustainably and cost effectively improving their Sponsored Child enrolment and update processes. This new process most likely will include implementing a mobile device to collect and transmit the information on the SC. The project will build on extensive design work undertaken by Accenture Netherlands in 2011. The project has to align with Plan’s global sponsorship systems, ensuring that the data collected interfaces with Plan software. The ICT Project Manager will be an experienced ICT professional who can lead on the design and implementation of this new system, according to strict deadlines and overseeing quality control throughout the project’s life cycle.
What does the role involve? Working with Plan Zambia, you will project manage the process of implementing Plan’s Automated Child Enrolment (PACE) Project. To do this you will:
develop a full project plan covering all the key stages of the project covering scope, goals, timelines, milestones, budgets, resource requirements, technical testing, implementation plan, monitoring and progress in consultation with senior managers and stakeholders design and test new data collection processes, reviewing all options for mobile devices suitable for Plan Zambia and commission local programming work work closely with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis, in particular Plan’s head quarters to ensure compatibility with existing corporate software deliver progress reports and communicate effectively about project plans, developments, changes and evaluation, disseminating information to key parties throughout the project life cycle lead the roll-out phase once the pilot is completed.
Skills, qualifications and experience required You’ll have a degree in ICT, with thorough enterprise software leadership experience. You’ll have experience in reviewing and redesigning work processes, highly developed analytical skills and the capacity to breakdown problems and desired solutions into components. You’ll have 5 years direct work experience in a project management capacity, including all aspects of process development and execution, plus be familiar with project management software. You will preferably have knowledge and experience of the INGO industry best practice and standards. You’ll have the ability to work cross-culturally, including some work in remote areas of rural Zambia. You’ll be good at making decisions quickly and under pressure, plus effectively prioritising and executing tasks. You’ll have strong communication and interpersonal skills, fostering a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
And the rest.... You’ll be based at Plan Zambia’s Country Office in Lusaka, with some field work in Chibombo District. Lusaka is a bustling city with attractions to visit, plenty of amenities and leisure facilities. We’ll ask you to commit to at least 12 months to make a sustainable contribution to our development goals. In return we’ll provide you with extensive training before your placement, and our financial package includes a local living allowance, return flights, accommodation, insurance and more. When you return to your home country, we'll support you to resettle.
