A media and communications expert with a passion for Oxfam's work is needed to help support our high profile programme in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Background

DRC is one of Africa's largest, most diverse and poorest countries. Oxfam's DRC programme is one of our biggest, providing both emergency aid and long-term development to some 800,000 people, with over 350 staff and is one of our priority countries for humanitarian policy and campaigning.
The role
Reporting to the Policy, Advocacy and Communications Manager, you will lead Oxfam's internal and external communications. This position is a complex and demanding, covering both national and international media and communications, and involving analysis, strategic thinking, networking, and information gathering across a vast geographic area. It is a truly diverse post, with the overall aim of ensuring that the voices of the Congolese people we work with are heard on the national and global stage. It involves finding new and innovative ways to generate global media interest in issues affecting the lives of people in the conflict-torn east; working with local partners to build national campaigns on a range of issues that affect their lives, bringing real change to the country's poorest communities; using new and existing technologies to gather interesting multimedia stories for both internal and external publications, websites and campaigns; building relationships and raising the profile of Oxfam and our core development issues with the DRC's national media; providing information, stories and analysis to support the work of Oxfam teams in the DRC and around the world; acting as Oxfam's spokesperson for radio, TV and press; and responding to a highly complex, challenging and rapidly changing working environment. You also will develop and produce new ways to engage our internal audience and regularly visit the field to gain exposure to all areas of Oxfam's work in the DRC.
The person
To achieve this you will need to be ambitious, creative and determined. You will have a wide range of skills and experience including of building relationships with media organisations, working with civil society groups at a grassroots level, producing professional standard multimedia materials, and knowledge of how to access different media markets. The candidate must be a strategic thinker, conversant with the latest digital innovation and e-campaigning potential, have excellent attention to detail, interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively in a multi-cultural team, under pressure and to tight deadlines. You must have excellent written and spoken English and French. Working knowledge of Swahili and/or Lingala would be an advantage.
