Company Profile
In November 2010 African Parks (AP) signed a partnership agreement with the Ministry of Sustainable Development of the Republic of Congo for the management and financing of the OKNP National Park. Management of the park will be the responsibility of a new legal entity, the “OKNP Foundation” (OKF), which has a board of directors made up of representatives from AP, RAPAC (a key donor), the Government, Leadership Conservation for Africa, and local communities. The management agreement runs for an initial term of 25 years, with an option to renew. Overall, it is envisaged that OKF will have full, delegated authority to manage OKNP.
OKNP covers an area of 1,365,000 hectares and is situated within the heart of the rainforest of the Congo basin. The outstanding conservation values of OKNP include the presence of more than 100 saline clearings, one of the largest populations of lowland gorillas and forest elephants in Central Africa, and possibly one of the last refuges of lion in the forest massif of Central Africa.
The long-term vision for OKNP is a follows:
“To restore, develop and manage OKNP National Park as a functioning forest and savannah ecosystem, through proper protection from poaching, sound conservation practices and tourism & other revenue development - thereby creating additional economic benefit

Job Description
Objectives and goals for the GIS data processor
- Execution and management of the OKNP business plan
- Ensure the timely processing of all data collected by OKNP operational staff; law enforcement, monitoring, habituation and community
- Translate all data into easily understandable formats
- Monitor trends from data collected
- Ensure African Parks ethics and operational procedures
Job overview
The position is located at the OKNP headquarters.
It is fundamental to implement OKNP management plan.
A Data Processor, GIS is needed to complete the following tasks:
- Collecting all data collected from operational teams in the field;
o Law Enforcement,
o Monitoring,
o Habituation,
o Community development,
o Eco-development zone activities and development,
- Processing all data collected from operational teams in the field
- Providing all data in a format useable by management
- Following trends;
o Animal population trends (increase and decrease)
o Animal movements
o Biological indicators especially on disease
- Early warning on any potential problems or disasters
Experience, skills and qualifications required
- The ideal candidate must have a strong academic background including a minimum academic qualification Bac + 3 preferably in Wildlife Management with GIS experience
- The candidate must have a minimum of 3 years of GIS data processing experience at National level, and a proven ability to process this data
- Ensuring the links between the various units in the field and the management of the Park
- Being fluent both in Lingala and French is essential for this position and being able to speak English will be an added advantage.
