DUTIES
Working together with AWF’s southern Africa Heartland teams, the SPO-CE will play a lead role in developing of conservation enterprises as a key strategy in advancing conservation and development goals in southern Africa, and ensuring that conservation enterprises fit into AWF’s southern Africa regional strategy. At the operational level, this role will develop conservation enterprises that promote landscape-level conservation of natural resources, draft and negotiate business partnerships, provide entrepreneurial capacity building to various partners, and be responsible for project management of all enterprises in southern Africa.
To be successful, the SPO-CE will have to exhibit solid project management, and be capable of facilitating negotiations amongst communities, private sector partners, financiers, local authorities, and other stakeholders. Much of the daily work involves capacity building of stakeholder communities – enabling communities to assess the value of their resources, advising communities on how to distribute and invest income, and increasing entrepreneurial and managerial skills within the communities. This is no easy job, but will be exceptionally rewarding for the right person.
