Objectives: • Develop and implement media and communications strategies to increase GAVI’s visibility and influence and help the Alliance achieve its operational goals; • Successful candidates will devise and implement strategies to increase awareness of GAVI’s mission and progress in key donor countries and globally. As an experienced media and communication professional, you have experience in handling reputational risk issues, are adept at briefing senior management on communication issues, and have the authority to demand and enable high-quality journalism; • You are a team player with experience managing consultants and PR companies. You are a concise and crisp communicator who welcomes creativity, innovation and collaboration; • GAVI is a public-private partnership and we seek applicants with experience in journalism, public relations, or politics in the private and/or non-profit sectors. Key results expected: • Increased profile of GAVI and immunisation globally and in key donor countries; • Increased understanding among key audiences of GAVI’s innovative business model and approach to development; • Superior communications strategies, strategic partnerships, innovative campaigns and new media approaches; • Well-written content tailored for specific audiences and integrated into campaign approaches.
Main duties/ Responsibilities: 1. Media relations and donor communications • Act as communications expert and focal point on 2-3 GAVI-related topics (e.g. specific diseases and vaccines or GAVI programmes); • Devise and implement donor country specific communications strategies that are integrated into GAVI’s fund raising plans; work with key donors to promote their partnership in the Alliance and with in-country allies to advocate on the importance of immunisation; • Create opportunities and dynamics to deliver increased visibility;
• Manage and implement media events, from Geneva-based press conferences to global announcements; • Maintain and build relationships with a key set of reporters; • Proactively seek, pitch and manage interviews for the GAVI CEO, Board Chair and others; • Act as a spokesperson for the organization.
Writing and editing content • Produce compelling, fact-based content for a variety of GAVI audiences and communications channels. These include CEO speeches, opinion pieces, authored articles, press releases, website stories and features, and text for publications.
Reputational risk • Identify reputational risk issues and engineer rapid responses --defending our brand, and injecting ally voices into important debates.
Partnerships • Build relationships with global health partners to rally collective support for immunisation over the long term and around specific goals and opportunities.

Academic Advanced University degree is preferred in journalism, communications or related field, but experience will be taken in account.
Work experience • Minimum 7 years of work experience and increasing responsibility in media and communications, journalism or public relations; • Experience working with journalists, excellent media contacts and strong networking skills; • Demonstrated know-how in developing and implementing communications strategies; • Experience in dealing with reputational risk issues; • Knowledge of social media; • Knowledge of global health or development issues greatly preferred.
Skills/competencies • Excellent storytelling and writing skills in English for all types of media. Your writing should be immediate, personable, and memorable; • Ability to translate science and complex health and development issues for a broader audience; • Knowledge of global health and development issues a plus; • Strong editing skills an advantage;
• A quick, political and strategic mind; calm in a crisis; • Mission driven, self-starter who can work flexible hours and manage your time independently; • Good knowledge of institutional or organization policies, systems and procedures; • A team player who enjoys working in a multi-cultural environment, establishing harmonious and effective working relationships as part of a close-knit team. Sense of humour a plus.
Languages • Written and spoken fluency in English; • Fluency in French, German, Japanese or Spanish a plus.
